| Summary, etc. | Background: Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal condition and a significant contributor to global disability. The estimated one-year prevalence of neck pain was about 45.5% within office workers, with a range from 45.8% to 54.7% within healthcare professionals. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the impact of mechanical neck pain with different neck positions [neutral, rotation to either left or right] on hand grip strength among young adults. Subject and methods: Pre-test post-test randomized control study. It was conducted on 57 patients from both genders suffering from chronic mechanical neck pain (CMNP), All patients had neck pain symptoms provoked by neck postures, neck movement or palpation of the cervical musculature for at least the last 3 months. Their ages ranged from 18 to 25 years old (dominant hand is the right hand). They were randomly assigned into three equivalent groups,19 patients in each group, Group A: received conventional treatment for CMNP from neutral head-neck position. Group B: received conventional treatment for CMNP from 45 ° rotation to the right. Group C: received conventional treatment for CMNP from 45 ° rotation to the left. All patients received three treatment sessions per week for 4 successive weeks. Pain intensity level was measured by visual analogue scale, hand grip strength was measured by hand-held dynamometer and upper extremity function was measured by Arabic version of the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH-Arabic). Results: Post-treatment results indicated a statistically significant improvement in the mean values of pain, hand grip strength, as well as upper limb function in groups A, B, and C in relation to pre-treatment values. However, in between groups results showed a statistical improvement post treatment in group B more than A and C regarding hand grip strength. Conclusions: Different Head-neck positions have no effect on hand grip strength in treatment of patients with chronic mechanical neck pain. However, rotation to the right position showed the best treatment result regarding hand grip strength. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: آلام الرقبة هي حالة شائعة في الجهاز العضلي الهيكلي ومساهم كبير في معدل العجز العالمي. وقدر معدل انتشار آلام الرقبة لمدة عام واحد بحوالي 45.5٪ بين موظفي المكاتب، مع نطاق من 45.8٪ إلى 54.7٪ بين المتخصصين في الرعاية الصحية. الغرض: أجريت هذه الدراسة لفحص تأثير آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية مع أوضاع الرقبة المختلفة [محايد، الدوران إلى اليسار أو اليمين] على قوة قبضة اليد بين الشباب. الموضوع والطرق: دراسة عشوائية مضبوطة قبل الاختبار وبعده. أجريت على 57 مريضًا من كلا الجنسين يعانون من آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية المزمنة. كان لدى جميع المرضى أعراض آلام الرقبة الناجمة عن أوضاع الرقبة أو حركة الرقبة أو ملامسة عضلات العنق لمدة 3 أشهر على الأقل. تراوحت أعمارهم بين 18 و 25 عامًا (اليد المهيمنة هي اليد اليمنى). تم توزيعهم عشوائيًا في ثلاث مجموعات متكافئة، 19 مريضًا في كل مجموعة، المجموعة (أ): تلقوا العلاج التقليدي لـ آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية المزمنة من وضع الرأس والرقبة المحايد. المجموعة (ب): تلقت العلاج التقليدي لـ آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية المزمنة من دوران 45 درجة إلى اليمين. المجموعة (ج): تلقت العلاج التقليدي لـ آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية المزمنة من دوران 45 درجة إلى اليسار. تلقى جميع المرضى ثلاث جلسات علاجية في الأسبوع لمدة 4 أسابيع متتالية. تم قياس مستوى شدة الألم بمقياس التناظر البصري، وتم قياس قوة قبضة اليد بمقياس القوة المحمول باليد وتم قياس وظيفة الطرف العلوي بالنسخة العربية من إعاقة الذراع والكتف واليد (داش-العربية). النتائج: أشارت نتائج ما بعد العلاج إلى تحسن كبير إحصائيًا في متوسط قيم الألم وقوة قبضة اليد وكذلك وظيفة الطرف العلوي في المجموعات أ و ب و ج مقارنة بقيم ما قبل العلاج. ومع ذلك، أظهرت النتائج بين المجموعات تحسنًا إحصائيًا بعد العلاج في المجموعة ب أكثر من أ و ج فيما يتعلق بقوة قبضة اليد. الاستنتاجات: ليس لأوضاع الرأس والرقبة المختلفة أي تأثير على قوة قبضة اليد في علاج المرضى الذين يعانون من آلام الرقبة الميكانيكية المزمنة. ومع ذلك، أظهر الدوران إلى الوضع الصحيح أفضل نتيجة علاجية فيما يتعلق بقوة قبضة اليد. |
