| Summary, etc. | Background: Flat feet or pes planus are a complex disorder with diversity of
symptoms and various degrees of deformity that are caused by structural
loading changes along the medial part of the feet and planter arches. When the
arch starts collapsing, balance is disturbed at the feet, and therefore the balance
throughout the entire body is also disturbed. Purpose: The purpose of this study
was to investigate the effect of Pilates training on balance and quality of life in
flexible flat feet. Methods: 44 subjects from both sex with age ranged from 18-
21 years and BMI ranged from 18.5-25 kg/m2 bilateral flexible flat feet were
participated in this study. They were assigned randomly and equally in two
groups. Balance check 636 device (Dr Wolff, Arnsberg, Germany ) used to
measure dynamic balance including front average deviation, back average
deviation, right average deviation and left average deviation, and foot function
index (FFI) questionnaire used to assess quality of life; Group A received
Pilates training 2 sessions per week for 5 Weeks, 10 repetitions for each
exercise with 10 -20 seconds of rest between each exercise, and short feet
exercise 3 min each day for 5 weeks, each repetition was held for 5 sec and
repeated for up to 3 min approximately 30 repetitions, 45-second rest period
after each 10 repetition. Group B received short feet exercise. Results: There
was a significant difference between pre and post between both groups at all
measured variables with more favor to group Aas p value (p < 0.001)
Conclusion: Pilates training combined with short foot exercise(SFE) is more
effective in improving dynamic balance and quality of life in flexible flat feet
than SFE alone. |
| 520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc.
