| Summary, etc. | Objectives: This study aimed to find out how different ways of applying cryotherapy changed the pain of arteriovenous fistula punctures in hemodialysis patients. Methods: During the seven weeks of this randomized controlled study, ninety hemodialysis (HD) patients of both sexes with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who had received medical treatment were allocated to one of three groups at random: ipsilateral (received cryotherapy at the site of needle insertion), contralateral (received cryotherapy at the site opposite to the needle insertion), and control (followed medical treatment without cryotherapy application). Cryotherapy was applied for five to ten minutes, three times a week. Prior to and following the seven-week intervention period, assessments of upper limb function (by Arm Motor Ability Test [AMAT]), pain severity (by Visual Analogue Scale [VAS]), beside anxiety and depression (by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS]) were carried out. Results: The final results showed that all evaluated outcomes improved after the intervention, with no statistically significant difference between the ipsilateral and contralateral groups (p ≥ 0.05). Yet, when comparing the contralateral or ipsilateral groups to the control group, all parameters had statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Conclusions: For hemodialysis patients, cryotherapy is one of the best ways to manage pain from arteriovenous fistula punctures, upper limb dysfunction, depression, and anxiety. |

| Summary, etc. | أهداف البحث: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد كيفية تأثير التطبيقات المختلفة للعلاج بالتبريد على الألم المرتبط بثقب الناسور الشرياني الوريدي لدى مرضى غسيل الكلى. <br/>طريقة البحث: في هذه التجربة العشوائية التي استمرت سبعة أسابيع، تم تعيين 90 مريضًا من كلا الجنسين مصابين بمرض الكلى في المرحلة النهائية في إحدى المجموعات الثلاث بشكل عشوائي والذين تلقوا علاجًا طبيًا: نفس الجانب (تلقوا العلاج بالتبريد في موقع إدخال الإبرة)، أو الجانب المعاكس (تلقوا العلاج بالتبريد في الموقع المقابل لإدخال الإبرة)، أو المجموعة الضابطة (اتبعوا العلاج الطبي دون تطبيق العلاج بالتبريد). تم تطبيق العلاج بالتبريد لمدة خمس إلى عشر دقائق، ثلاث مرات في الأسبوع. تم إجراء تقييم شدة الألم (المخرج الأولي - بواسطة مقياس التناظر البصري ، ووظيفة الطرف العلوي (بواسطة اختبار قدرة الذراع الحركية)، والقلق (بواسطة مقياس القلق والاكتئاب في المستشفى) قبل وبعد فترة التدخل التي استمرت سبعة أسابيع.<br/>النتائج: أظهرت النتائج أن جميع التقييمات تحسنت بعد التدخل، مع عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين المجموعتين من نفس الجانب والجانب المعاكس. ومع ذلك، عند مقارنة المجموعتين من نفس الجانب أو من الجانب المعاكس بالمجموعة الضابطة، أظهرت جميع التقييمات فروقًا ذات دلالة إحصائية.<br/>الاستنتاجات: بالنسبة لمرضى غسيل الكلى، يعد العلاج بالتبريد أحد أفضل الطرق لتقليل الألم الناتج عن ثقب الناسور الشرياني الوريدي، واختلال وظيفة الطرف العلوي، الاكتئاب ،والقلق. |
