| Summary, etc. | Background: Depression is one of the common mental illnesses affecting over <br/>300 million subjects all over the world and has been considered a main cause of <br/>disability in recent years. <br/>Objective: To investigate the effect of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation <br/>(NVNS) for depression in elderly . <br/>Patients and Methods: Forty patients diagnosed with depression; their age 60-70 <br/>years old. They were selected according to inclusion criteria from Matareya <br/>Teaching Hospital and were divided into two groups equal in number Group A <br/>(Study group): Twenty (20) patients received vagus nerve stimulation as adjuvant <br/>to standard medical treatment and psychotherapy. Group B (Control group): <br/>Twenty (20) patients received standard care for major depressive disorder (MDD) <br/>patients in the form of medical treatment and psychotherapy . <br/>Results: There was statistically significant difference between two groups in the <br/>form of improvement the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale post treatment for <br/>group A and laboratory results of C-reactive protein (CRP), pro-inflammatory <br/>interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), Serotonin post-<br/>treatment for group A in comparison to other group who did not receive non-<br/>invasive vagus nerve stimulation . <br/>Conclusion: Use of NVNS for elderly patients with depression is an effective <br/>additional adjuvant intervention to alleviate symptoms and reduce the severity of <br/>the disease. |

| Summary, etc. | تضمنت الدراسة 50 مصابا) 36 من الرجال و14سيدة( بمرض الشرايين المحيطية من المرحلة الثانية نسبة للعالم فونتين، وتتراوح أعمارهم بين (40 و 75)، واوزانهم تتراوح من (18.5-40-كجم /متر مربع ) ومؤشر الضغط الكاحلي العضدي يتراوح من 0,90 أو أقل في الراحة إلى 0,73 أو أقل بعد التمرين. تم تعيين المشاركين بشكل عشوائي إما لتدريب جهاز المشي الخاضع للإشراف (مجموعة التحكم) أو تدريب جهاز المشي الخاضع للإشراف جنبًا إلى جنب مع التحفيز الكهربائي العصبي عبر الجلد (المجموعة التجريبية) لمدة اثني عشر أسبوعا، ثلاث مرات أسبوعيا.تم تجميع العينة من العيادات الخارجية( عيادة الأوعية الدموية) بالقصرالعيني، يُظهر بروتوكول الجمع بين التدريب على المشاية الرياضية (التريدميل) والتحفيز الكهربائي العصبي عبر الجلد نتائج واعدة في تحسين النتائج الوظيفية والمرضية لمرضى الشريان المحيطي المصابين بالعرج المتقطع. حيث يؤدي هذا البروتوكول إلى زيادة المسافة المقطوعة أثناء المشي، و تقليل شدة الألم، و تحسين سرعة تدفق الدم مما يعزز تحمُّل المرضى للألم ويزيد من فعالية جلسات التأهيل. تُشير هذه النتائج إلى أهمية دمج تقنية التحفيز الكهربائي العصبي عبر الجلد أثناء المشي على المشاية الرياضية (التريدميل) في الإرشادات التأهيلية لمرض الشريان المحيطي لضمان تحقيق أفضل معدلات الالتزام بالعلاج والنتائج المُثلى. ومن الممكن مستقبلا دراسة تأثير الجمع بين التريدميل والتحفيز الكهربائي العصبي عبر الجلد على المرضى في *المرحلة الثالثة من تصنيف فونتين ، حيث يعاني المرضى من ألم أثناء الراحة. |
