| Summary, etc. | The concern for achieving adequate fixation and fusion is often part of the <br/>treating physician’s treatment algorithm. <br/>Bone density is a critical component of a patient’s bone health status. Dual <br/>energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) measures BMD. The World Health <br/>Organization (WHO) uses T scores to classify an individual’s bone health <br/>status. <br/>Using World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, the lowest T score was <br/>analyzed, patients with a lowest T score equal or less than- 2.5 were designated <br/>to have osteoporosis, those with a lowest T score greater than – 1.0 were <br/>designated as having normal bone density. All remaining patients were <br/>designated as having osteopenia. <br/>Osteoporosis has become a major medical problem as the aged population of <br/>the world rapidly grows. Osteoporosis predisposes patients to fracture, <br/>progressive spinal deformities, and stenosis, and is subject to be a major <br/>concern before performing spine surgery, especially with bone fusions and <br/>instrumentation. <br/>. Our study included 36 patients operated upon by posterolateral fixation and <br/>fusion distributed into three groups, the normal bone density (12 patients) , <br/>osteopenia (12 patients) and osteoporosis (12 patients). The interbody fusion <br/>was found to be statistically affected by the health of bone in the postoperative <br/>outcome. |

| Summary, etc. | مع استمرار ارتفاع عدد كبار السن في العالم، سيرتفع عدد المرضى الذين يحتاجون إلى عمليات دمج العمود الفقري باستخدام الأدوات في ظل كثافة العظام الضعيفة.<br/>لقد تطورت الخوارزميات الطبية والجراحية لإدارة هشاشة العظام وهشاشة العظام مع نمو فهمنا لعلم الأمراض والعلاجات.<br/>لقد أدى تطوير البايفوسفونيت، والعوامل الابتنائية لتخليق العظام، والبيولوجيا، وبدائل ترقيع العظام، والتعرف على نقص فيتامين د وعلاجه، إلى تمكين عملية دمج العمود الفقري من أن تصبح خيار علاج صالح وقيم للمرضى الذين يعانون من انخفاض كثافة العظام، حيث ربما كان من غير المستحسن القيام بذلك في الماضي.<br/>ومع ذلك، حتى مع التقدم المحرز في تحسين صحة العظام أثناء الجراحة، تظل هشاشة العظام وهشاشة العظام مشاكل كبيرة وكلاهما مرتبطان بزيادة المضاعفات بعد عملية دمج العمود الفقري.<br/>إن أحد التحديات الأساسية التي يفرضها هشاشة العظام وهشاشة العظام على نتائج جراحة العمود الفقري هو عدم وجود مقياس تصويري معياري قبل الجراحة لتحديد خطر حدوث مضاعفات متعلقة بهشاشة العظام (ORC) بعد جراحة اندماج العمود الفقري. |
