| Summary, etc. | Background: Pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness that radiates down the lower <br/>back and into the lower extremities is known as lumbosacral radiculopathy. It is the <br/>most persistent type of musculoskeletal pain in clinical practice. It is one of the <br/>primary causes of disability in individuals aged 45 and younger. Eighty percent of <br/>people will experience it at any time throughout their lives. <br/>Objective: To examine the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on <br/>functional outcomes in patients with lumbosacral radiculopathy. <br/>Subjects and Methods: Fifty-two patients with lumbosacral radiculopathy, disc <br/>plug at one level, with ages between 30 and 45 years, were selected from the Mataria <br/>Teaching Hospital clinic, and were randomly divided into two equal groups; study <br/>group (GA) received cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) plus the same selected <br/>physiotherapy training, and control group (GB) received selected physiotherapy <br/>training. Treatment was done two sessions/week for two months. All variables were <br/>evaluated before and after the intervention. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and <br/>Oswestry disability index (ODI) were utilized to evaluate pain intensity, functional <br/>disability, respectively. An electrogoniometer was used for measuring active hip <br/>joint flexion. Stabilizer pressure biofeedback was applied to evaluate lumbar <br/>stability. <br/>Results: A significant reduction in the VAS and ODI was observed in both groups <br/>after treatment in comparison to baseline (p < 0.05), with a more favorable effect <br/>observed in the GA. A significant increase in both lumbar stability and hip flexion <br/>angle was observed in the two groups after treatment in comparison to baseline (p < <br/>0.05), with a more favorable effect observed in GA. <br/>Conclusions: CBT is a beneficial approach for reducing pain and functional <br/>impairment in patients with lumbar radiculopathy. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية : اعتلال الجذور القطنية العجزية هي مجموعة من الاعراض مثل الالم والتنمل وضعف العضلات التي تنتقل من اسفل الظهرالى الساق وتعد الاكثر شيوعا في التأثير على النتائج الوظيفية وممارسة الحياة اليومية للانسان .<br/>الغرض : الهدف من هذة الدراسة هو بيان تأثير العلاج السلوكى المعرفي والمقارنة بينه وبين العلاج التقليدي المختار لآلام اسفل الظهر واعتلال الجذور القطنية العجزية . شارك فى هذة الدراسة اثنان وخمسون مريضا بآلام اسفل الظهر واعتلال الجذور القطنية العجزية من كلا الجنسين وتم تقسيمهم عشوائيا الى مجموعتين المجموعة الضابطة الاولي برنامج علاج سلوكي معرفي والمجموعة الضابطة الثانية برنامج علاج طبيعي التقليدي مختار مرتين أسبوعيا لمدة شهرين . تم تقييم جميع المرضي قبل التدريب وفي نهاية فترة التدريب عن طريق مقياس الإعاقة الوظيفية الناتج عن آلام اسفل الظهر(مؤشر إعاقة أوزويستري) ، مؤشر الالم البصرى (VAS) ، مقياس زاوية مفصل الورك .وقد أظهرت نتائج هذة الدراسة فى نهاية العلاج ان هناك فرق ذا دلالة احصائية تحسن آلام اسفل الظهر والنتائج الوظيفية وزاية مفصل الورك في المجموعة الاولى مقارنة بالمجوعة الثانية. <br/>نستخلص من هذة الدراسة : تفوق العلاج السلوكى المعرفى في علاج آلام اسفل الظهر مقارنة بالعلاج التقليدى . |
