Summary, etc.	Background: Osteoarthritis is a common cause of chronic pain and disability in <br/>elderly people associated with high treatment costs, decreased productivity and <br/>absence from work and thus has a substantial and growing burden on society. <br/>Purpose: To assess the effectiveness of Maitland mobilization with low-level <br/>laser therapy (LLLT) for patients suffering from chronic knee osteoarthritis. <br/>Subjects and methods: Randomized controlled trial including 75 male and <br/>female individuals, with age ranged from 50 to 65 years were distributed among <br/>three groups randomly. Group A (n=26) received both Maitland mobilization <br/>technique and LLLT in addition to conventional physical therapy program <br/>(CPT), Group B (n=23) received LLLT and CPT and Group C (n=26) received <br/>Maitland mobilization and CPT. All groups underwent treatment program three <br/>times per week for four weeks. The intensity of pain was measured by using <br/>visual analog scale (VAS), pressure pain threshold (PPT) estimated by pressure <br/>algometer, measurements of range of motion (ROM) of knee flexion and <br/>extension were measured by using a digital goniometer, while functional <br/>abilities were assessed by arabic version of knee injury and osteoarthritis <br/>outcome score short form KOOS-PS. Results:The study revealed non <br/>statistically noteworthy variations in the mean values of pain among the three <br/>groups pre study (p=0.896) and post study (p=0.189), no significant variation in <br/>the average values of PPT (right and left) knees pre study (p =0.813 and 0.836) <br/>and post study (p=0.122 and 0.384) respectively also no significant variations in <br/>the mean values of KOOS-PS pre study (p=0.425), and post study (p=0.101). <br/>Conclusion: Findings of the study indicated that Maitland mobilization along <br/>with LLLT had the same effect as using one of these modalities combined with <br/>conventional physical therapy treatment.

Summary, etc.	الخلفية: مرض الخشونه هو سبب شائع للألم المزمن والاعاقة لدي كبار السن ويرتبط بتكاليف مرتفعة وانخفاض الأنتاجية والتغيب عن العمل وبالتالي يشكل عبئا كبيرا ومتزايدا علي المجتمع.<br/>هدفالبحث: تقييم فعالية تمارين تحريك ميتلاند مع العلاج بالليزر منخفض الشده للمرضى الذين يعانون من خشونه الركبة المزمنة.<br/>الاشخاص وطرق البحث: تجربة عشوائية محكمة شملت 75فرداً من الذكور والإناث، تراوحت أعمارهم بين 50 الي 65 سنة موزعين على ثلاث مجموعات عشوائياً. تلقت المجموعة أ (ن=26) كلا من تمارين تحريك ميتلاند والعلاج بالليزر منخفض الشده بالإضافة إلى العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي، وتلقت المجموعه ب (ن=23) العلاج بالليزر منخفض الشده مع العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي، وتلقت المجموعه ج(ن=26) تمارين تحريك ميتلاند مع العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي. خضعت جميع المجموعات للبرنامج العلاجي ثلاث مرات اسبوعيا لمدة أربع أسابيع. تم قياس شدة الألم باستخدام مقياس تناظري بصري وقيست عتبة ضغط الالم بواسطة مقياس الضغط، وقيست قياسات مدي حركة ثني الركبة ومدها باستخدام مقياس الزوايا الرقمي، بينما قدرت القدرات الوظيفية باستخدام لنسخه العربية لاستبيان الالتهاب المفصلي العظمي واصابات الركبه(صيغه مختصرة).<br/>النتائج: كشفت الدراسة عن وجود فروق غير ملحوظة إحصائيًا في متوسط قيم الألم بين المجموعات الثلاث قبل الدراسة (ص = 0.896) وبعد الدراسة (ص = 0.189)، وعدم وجود فروق ملحوظة في متوسط قيم عتبة ضغط الألم للركبتين اليمنى واليسرى قبل الدراسة (ص = 0.813 و 0.836) وبعد الدراسة (ص = 0.122 و 0.384) على التوالي، وكذلك عدم وجود فروق ملحوظة في متوسط قيم استبيان الالتهاب المفصلي العظمي واصابات الركبه(صيغه مختصرة)قبل الدراسة (ص = 0.425)، وبعد الدراسة (ص = 0.101).<br/>الخلاصة: أشارت نتائج الدراسة إلى أن استخدام تقنية ميتلاند مع العلاج بالليزر منخفض الشدة كان له نفس تأثير استخدام إحدى هاتين التقنيتين مقترنة مع العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي
