| Summary, etc. | Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common medical condition, which causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm of the affected side. Shock wave therapy, a new therapeutic method for the treatment of mild-to-moderate CTS, has recently attracted more attention and can be used to improve median nerve function in patients with CTS. Aim: to systematically review the published randomized control trials (RCTs) about the long-term effect of shockwave therapy on electrophysiological parameters of median nerve in CTS. Methods: An electronic search was made in Cochrane library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) and PubMed database from 2010 and last updated to 2024. The research was restricted to RCTs published at the period from inception to 2022 on the long-term effect of shockwave therapy on electrophysiological parameters of median nerve in carpal tunnel syndrome. Methodological quality of the included articles was assessed using risk of bias 1(ROB 1). Level of evidence was assessed using modified Sackett’s scale. Results: A total of thirteen articles, with 876 CTS patients were reviewed. They provide limited level to support the long-term effectiveness of shockwave therapy. Meta-analysis was done for thirteen included studies and showed a significant difference between the Shockwave and any other treatment in control groups and revealed significant improvement in electrophysiological parameters.Conclusion: This systematic review revealed limited evidence that supports the long-term effectiveness of shockwave therapy on electrophysiological parameters in CTS patients. Confirmation of this evidence requires more and larger high quality RCTs |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: تعد متلازمة النفق الرسغي من الحالات الطبية الشائعة التي تسبب الألم والخدر والوخز في اليد والذراع المصابين.. ويُعد العلاج بالموجات التصادمية أحد الأساليب العلاجية الحديثة المستخدمة في حالات المتلازمة الخفيفة إلى المتوسطة، وقد حظي مؤخرًا باهتمام متزايد نظرًا لقدرته على تحسين وظيفة العصب الأوسط. الهدف:مراجعة منهجية للتجارب العشوائية المحكمة المنشورة حول التأثير طويل المدى للعلاج بالموجات التصادمية على المعايير الكهروفسيولوجية فى مرضى متلازمة اختناق النفق الرسغي. الطريقة:تم إجراء بحث إلكتروني في قواعد بيانات: مكتبة كوكرين، وقاعدة بيانات الأدلة للعلاج الطبيعي وببمد (PubMed) منذ عام 2010 وحتى آخر تحديث في عام 2024. تم حصر البحث في الدراسات العشوائية المحكمة المنشورة في الفترة ما بين 2010 و2024، والتي تناولت التأثير طويل المدى للعلاج بالموجات التصادمية على المعايير الكهروفسيولوجية فى مرضى متلازمة النفق الرسغي. النتائج:استوفت ثلاثة عشر دراسة معايير الاشتمال، وقدمت هذه الدراسات دليل محدود يدعم فعالية العلاج بالموجات التصادمية على المدى الطويل. كما أُجري تحليل تجميعي (Meta-analysis) لهذه الدراسات، وأظهر فروقًا ذات دلالة إحصائية بين العلاج بالموجات التصادمية والعلاجات الأخرى في مجموعات المقارنة، وكشف عن تحسن ملحوظ في المعايير الكهروفسيولوجية. الاستنتاج:كشفت هذه المراجعة المنهجية عن وجود أدلة محدودة تدعم فعالية العلاج بالموجات التصادمية على المدى الطويل في تحسين المعايير الكهروفسيولوجية فى مرضى متلازمة اختناق النفق الرسغي. يتطلب تأكيد هذه الأدلة تجارب أكثر ذات جودة عالية اكبر. |
