| Summary, etc. | Purpose: The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on intercostobrachial neuralgia post mastectomy. Subjects and methods: Fifty-two female patients aged from 40 to 65 years suffered from intercostobrachial neuralgia post mastectomy participated in the study. They were selected from the National Cancer Institute, Cairo, Egypt and divided randomly into two equal groups. Group A (Study group) composed of 26 patients who received ESWT, 2 sessions per week, for 8 weeks in addition to the routine medical treatment. Group B (Control group) composed of 26 patients who received the routine medical treatment. Outcomes: Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Douleur Neuropathique 4 questionnaire (DN4) were used to measure pain intensity and neuropathic pain respectively, while goniometer was used to measure the shoulder range of motion (ROM) at baseline (pre-treatment), after 4 weeks and after 8 weeks (post-treatment) for both groups. Results: Both groups demonstrated a substantial reduction in VAS and DN4, while flexion and abduction ROM showed significant improvement (P<0.001) at post I and II in comparison to pre-treatment. Between groups comparison revealed that VAS and DN4 were significantly reduced (p < 0.05), while flexion and abduction ROM were significantly improved (P < 0.01) in ESWT group when compared to that of the control group at post I and II treatments. Conclusion: ESWT is an effective modality for improving intercostobrachial neuralgia post mastectomy. |

| Summary, etc. | أجريت هذه الدراسة بهدف تقييم تأثير العلاج بالموجات التصادمية الخارجية على ألم العصب الوربي العضدي بعد استئصال الثدي, وقد شارك فى هذه الدراسة اثنتان وخمسون مريضة تتراوح أعمارهن ما بين 40-65 عاما ممن تعانين من ألم العصب الوربي العضدي بعد استئصال الثدي وقد تم اختيارهن من المعهد القومي للأورام بالقاهرة. وقد تم تقسيمهن عشوائيا الى مجموعتين متساويتين. المجموعة الأولى (مجموعة الدراسة) تكونت من ستة وعشرون مريضة ممن تلقوا العلاج بالموجات التصادمية الخارجية بواقع جلستين أسبوعيا، لمدة ثمان اسابيع كفترة اجمالية للعلاج ، بالإضافة إلى العلاج الطبي التقليدي. المجموعة الثانية (المجموعة الضابطة) تكونت من ستة وعشرون مريضة ممن تلقوا العلاج الطبي التقليدي ، وقد تم استخدام المقياس التناظري البصري لقياس شدة الألم ، واستبيان دولر للأمراض العصبية 4 لقياس الألم العصبي ، كما تم استخدام المنقل لمقياس الزوايا لقياس المدى الحركي للكتف لكلتا المجموعتين قبل تلقى العلاج و بعد أربعة أسابيع و بعد ثمانية أسابيع (بعد تلقى العلاج). النتائج: لقد اظهرت النتائج انخفاض في درجة الألم وزيادة المدى الحركي للكتف في كلا المجموعتين ولكن بالمقارنة بين مجموعة الدراسة والمجموعة الضابطة أظهرت النتائج فروق ذات دلالة احصائية عالية بين كلا المجموعتين وكانت الأفضلية لصالح مجموعة الدراسة. <br/>الاستنتاجات تم التوصل إلى أن الموجات التصادمية الخارجية هي وسيلة فعالة لتحسين ألم العصب الوربي العضدي بعد استئصال الثدي. |
