| Summary, etc. | Background: Postnatal coccydynia is a serious health problem because it certainly can limit function and quality of life. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of shock wave therapy (SWT) on postnatal coccydynia. Methods: Forty–six, six weeks postnatal women, delivered vaginally suffering from postnatal coccydynia were participated in this study, from Al–Agoza Police Hospital, Giza, Egypt. They were randomly divided into two equal groups (A and B). Group A was treated by SWT (one session per week for 4 weeks) and medication and group B was treated by medication only. Outcome measure: pain intensity, pain pressure threshold (PPT), functional disability and lumbar mobility were measured by using visual analogue scale (VAS), pressure algometer, oswestry disability index (ODI) and modified–modified Schober test (MMST) respectively pre and post treatment (after 4 weeks) for both groups (A and B). Result: There was a statistically significant reduction in VAS and ODI, a significant increase in PPT and in MMST in flexion and extension in both groups (A&B) after treatment compared with baseline. When comparing between both groups there was a statistically highly significant reduction in VAS (p=0.001), a highly significant decrease in ODI (p=0.006), a highly significant increase in PPT (p=0.001), a highly significant increase in MMST in flexion (p=0.001) and in extension (p=0.005) in favor of group A. <br/>Conclusion: Shock wave therapy is an effective modality for treating coccydynia in postnatal women. |

| Summary, etc. | تُعد آلام العصُعُص التي تحدث في فترة ما بعد الولادة مشكلة صحية خطيرة حيث أنها تَحد من الوظيفة وجودة الحياة. هدفت هذه الرسالة إلى تقييم تأثير العلاج بالموجات التصادمية على آلام العصعص لدى السيدات بعد الولادة. اشتركت في هذه الدراسة ستة و أربعون سيدة عانين من آلام العصعص بعد الولادة الطبيعية. وقد تم اختيارهن عشوائيًا من مستشفى الشرطة بالعجوزة بمحافظة الجيزة، مصر- و قد تم تقسيمهن إلى مجموعتين متساويتين (أ،ب). تم علاج المجموعة (أ) بالموجات التصادمية بمعدل جلسة أسبوعيا لمدة أربعة أسابيع بالإضافة للعلاج الدوائي و إتباع بعض النصائح، بينما تم علاج المجموعة (ب) بنفس العلاج الدوائى و اتباع نفس النصائح فقط. و تم قياس شدة الألم باستخدام مقياس النظير البصري، و قياس درجة تحمل الألم بجهاز الألجُوميتر، و قياس العجز الناتج عن الألم بإستخدام مؤشر أوسويستري لقياس العجز الناجم عن الألم و قياس مدى الحركة القطنية باستخدام اختبار شوبر قبل و بعد العلاج (أربعة أسابيع) لكلًا من المجموعتين(أ،ب). و قد أظهرت النتائج إنخفاضاً ذو دلالة إحصائية كبيرة فى مقياس النظير البصري و مؤشر أوسويستري لقياس العجز الناجم عن الألم ، و زيادة ذات دلالة إحصائية كبيرة فى درجة تحمل الألم و في اختبار شوبر في الانحناء الأمامي و الانحناء الخلفى، لصالح المجموعة (أ) التى تم علاجها بالموجات التصادمية. و بذلك نستنتج أن العلاج بالموجات التصادمية يعتبر فعالاً فى علاج آلام العصعص فى السيدات ما بعد الولادة. |
