| Summary, etc. | The MENA region faces challenges in balancing energy demand with <br/>security, affordability, and sustainability. Digitalization, particularly <br/>through information and communication technology (ICT), is seen as <br/>crucial for enabling secure, low-carbon energy systems. This thesis <br/>explores the impact of ICT on the Energy Trilemma Index (ETI) and its <br/>three dimensions (energy security, affordability, and environmental <br/>sustainability) from 2000–2021. Using methods like GMM, FMOLS, and <br/>the Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test, the study finds that ICT does not <br/>significantly affect the ETI in the short run. However, in the long run, <br/>ICT positively influences the ETI and energy security/affordability, while <br/>negatively affecting environmental sustainability. A bidirectional <br/>causality is found between ICT and the ETI components, suggesting <br/>ICT‘s key role in shaping the region‘s energy future. |

| Summary, etc. | تواجه منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا تحديات متعددة في تلبية احتياجاتها من الطاقة، مع<br/>السعي لضمان أمنها واستدامتها وتوفيرها بشكل عادل. وفي هذا السياق، تناقش هذه الدراسة أثر<br/>الرقمنة على معضلة الطاقة الثلاثية في المنطقة خلال الفترة من عام 2000 إلى عام 2021، مع<br/>التركيز على التفاعل بين التقنيات الرقمية وأنظمة الطاقة، وأبعاد المعضلة المتمثلة في الاستدامة،<br/>والتوفر، والأمان.<br/>تستخدم الدراسة منهجية العزوم المعممة (GMM)، وطريقة المربعات الصغرى المعدلة بالكامل<br/>(FMOLS)، إلى جانب اختبار السببية الثنائي (Pairwise Dumitrescu-Hurlin<br/>Causality Test) لتحليل العلاقة بين تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات ومؤشر معضلة الطاقة<br/>الثلاثية.<br/>تشير نتائج تقديرات GMM إلى أن تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات لا تُحدث تأثيرًا معنويًا<br/>على مؤشر المعضلة الثلاثية ولا على أبعادها الثلاثة في المدى القصير. أما نتائج FMOLS<br/>فتُظهر وجود علاقة إيجابية طويلة الأجل بين تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات ومؤشر<br/>المعضلة الثلاثية، لاسيما من حيث تعزيز أبعاده المتعلقة بالأمن والتوفر. في المقابل، تكشف نتائج<br/>اختبار السببية عن وجود علاقة سببية ثنائية الاتجاه بين تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات<br/>ومؤشر المعضلة الثلاثية، وهو ما يعكس التأثير المتبادل والتكامل المتزايد بين التقنيات الرقمية<br/>وقطاع الطاقة في دول المنطقة. |
