| Summary, etc. | Aim: to examine the effect of canal shaping using TruNatomy rotary system on post-operative <br/>pain in necrotic maxillary bi-rooted premolars in comparison to RaCe rotary system, while <br/>simultaneously inspecting and comparing the real-time dynamic forces produced during <br/>instrumentation. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>Methods: Forty patients diagnosed with pulp necrosis in asymptomatic bi-rooted maxillary <br/>premolars were recruited for the study. After confirming the diagnosis patients were randomly <br/>allocated into two equal groups (n=20) according to the instrument system used; Group I: RaCe rotary <br/>system, Group II: TruNatomy Rotary system. Treatment was completed in a single visit for all cases. <br/>Pain levels were recorded immediately before root canal treatment and at 6,12,24-,48-, 72- hours, and <br/>1-week post-treatment using modified visual analogue scale. The number of analgesics taken if any <br/>was recorded. Operative torque generated during root canal preparation as well as the time taken for <br/>the instrument to reach the working length were simultaneously recorded during instrumentation for <br/>both systems. All demographic, baseline and outcome data were collected and statistically analyzed. <br/>Results: There was no statistically significant difference between pain scores in the two <br/>groups at all time points measured. No significant different was also recorded in terms of number of <br/>analgesics taken. There was no significant difference in mean operative torque, average peak torque <br/>and maximum torque recorded in both the groups, however the instrumentation time was significantly <br/>shorter for the TruNatomy Group. A significant positive correlation was found between the <br/>instrumentation time and generated operative torque. |
