| Summary, etc. | E-government has emerged as a significant innovation with the potential to advance sustainability progress. While numerous developing countries have adopted e-government initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable development (SD), the fruitfulness of these efforts remains a subject of ongoing debate. This thesis provides an empirical investigation into the relationship between e-government implementation and the realization of sustainable development in developing countries for the period 2006-2022. This thesis used the United Nations' E-government Development Index (EGDI) as the independent variable. While sustainable development serves as the dependent variable and is assessed collectively, using Adjusted Net Savings (ANS), and through its individual dimensions using the Human Development Index (HDI), the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) and the annual growth rate of GDP per capita representing the social, environmental, economic dimensions. Two models were formed for this analysis. The baseline model assessed the overall impact of the EGDI on SD. The second model investigated the influence of the EGDI on each individual dimension of SD. Finally, this thesis compares the effectiveness of the EGDI in achieving higher levels of SD across three regions in the developing countries: Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The models were estimated using both fixed/random effects and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) approach. The GMM estimation results for the baseline model supported the hypothesis that e-government plays an effective role in achieving SD. In the second model, both estimation methods demonstrate a significant positive effect of EGDI on the social dimension of SD, and significant negative influence on both the environmental and economic dimensions. Regarding comparing regions within the developing countries, fixed effects showed varying EGDI impacts. |
| 520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
