| Summary, etc. | Aim of study: Aim of this work was to compare conversational versus narrational <br/>language skills in pre- school children with specific language impairment in order to <br/>analyze the different aspects of their language production for better planning of the <br/>verbal communication and rehabilitation required. <br/><br/>Subjects and methods : The sample of this study consisted of 35 children, Their ages <br/>ranged between 4 to 6 years, Children were selected with specific language impairment <br/>with expressive problems with mean length of utterance of more than 3 words, with <br/>normal hearing, no neurological or psycological disorder, normal I.Q over 85. All <br/>children were subjected to language evaluation, psychometric evaluation, audiological <br/>assessment and conversational and narrational assessment using Arabic pragmatic test. <br/><br/>Results: This study showed high significant differences between narrational and <br/>conversational skills regarding intelligibility, fluency, MLU, grammatical variables, <br/>complexity and complex verbs and they also showed positive correlation between <br/>them. There was significant positive correlation between total language scores and <br/>total narrational scores and between MLU and both fluency and grammatical variables <br/>and between complexity and complex verbs within conversational and narrational <br/>skills and between word order and grammatical variables within narrational skills. <br/>However there was insignificant correlation between total language scores and all <br/>conversational scores and between intelligibity and fluency and between word order <br/>and complexity within conversational and narrational skills and between word order <br/>and grammatical variables within conversational skills. <br/><br/>Conclusion: The clinical implications are that in order to obtain a representative <br/>sample of a child’s upper bounds of detailed language abilities, a clinician should <br/>include a narrative task in the assessment of language ability. Furthermore, narration <br/>appears to be a more sensitive tool to assess fluency and intelligibility than <br/>conversation in pre-school children with language impairment. |

| Summary, etc. | هدف الدراسة: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى مقارنة مهارات المحادثة مقابل مهارات السرد لدى أطفال ما قبل المدرسة الذين يعانون من اضطراب لغوي محدد، وذلك بهدف تحليل الجوانب المختلفة لإنتاجهم اللغوي لتحسين تخطيط التواصل اللفظي وإعادة التأهيل اللازمين.<br/>المشاركون والأساليب: شملت عينة هذه الدراسة 35 طفلاً، تتراوح أعمارهم بين 4 و6 سنوات. تم اختيار الأطفال الذين يعانون من اضطراب لغوي محدد، مع مشاكل في التعبير، بمتوسط طول جملة يزيد عن 3 كلمات، وسمع طبيعي، وعدم وجود أي اضطراب عصبي أو نفسي، ومعدل ذكاء طبيعي يزيد عن 85. خضع جميع الأطفال لتقييم لغوي، وتقييم نفسي، وتقييم سمعي، وتقييم للمحادثة والسرد باستخدام اختبار براغماتي عربي.<br/><br/>النتائج: أظهرت هذه الدراسة فروقًا دالة إحصائيًا بين مهارات السرد و<br/>مهارات المحادثة فيما يتعلق بالوضوح، والطلاقة، ومتوسط طول الجملة، والمتغيرات النحوية، و<br/>التعقيد، والأفعال المركبة، كما أظهرت ارتباطًا إيجابيًا بينها.<br/>كان هناك ارتباط إيجابي دال إحصائيًا بين إجمالي درجات اللغة و<br/>إجمالي درجات السرد، وبين متوسط طول الجملة وكل من الطلاقة والمتغيرات النحوية، وبين التعقيد والأفعال المركبة ضمن مهارات المحادثة والسرد، وبين ترتيب الكلمات والمتغيرات النحوية ضمن مهارات السرد.<br/>مع ذلك، لم يكن هناك ارتباط دال إحصائيًا بين إجمالي درجات اللغة وجميع<br/>درجات المحادثة، وبين الوضوح والطلاقة، وبين ترتيب الكلمات و<br/>التعقيد ضمن مهارات المحادثة والسرد، وبين ترتيب الكلمات و<br/>المتغيرات النحوية ضمن مهارات المحادثة.<br/>الخلاصة: تتمثل الآثار السريرية في أنه للحصول على عينة تمثيلية من الحد الأعلى لقدرات الطفل اللغوية التفصيلية، ينبغي على الطبيب المعالج تضمين مهمة سردية في تقييم القدرة اللغوية. علاوة على ذلك، يبدو أن السرد أداة أكثر حساسية لتقييم الطلاقة والفهم من المحادثة لدى أطفال ما قبل المدرسة الذين يعانون من اضطراب لغوي. |
