| Summary, etc. | Background: Smoking is detrimental to health, containing toxic compounds that <br/>contribute to several life-threatening conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive <br/>pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, as well as cardiovascular diseases. The lung <br/>boost exerciser was utilized to enhance lung capacity and alleviate shallow breathing. <br/>It additionally aids in strengthening the pulmonary muscles. <br/>Objective: this study was applied to investigate the effect of lung boost exerciser on <br/>ventilatory functions among male smokers. Patients and Methods: Forty males with <br/>light smoking levels their age ranged from 20-30years, their pack-year level were 5:10 <br/>pack / year, they were smoking at least 3 years till the end of the study and their BMI <br/>ranged from 20-29.9 kg/m2 participated in this study. They were assigned into two <br/>equal groups (n=20). Group (A): received Lung boost exerciser in addition to <br/>conventional physical therapy program for the chest in the form of diaphragmatic <br/>breathing exercise and pursed-lip breathing exercise, and group (B): received a <br/>conventional physical therapy program for the chest. All interventions were performed <br/>for six weeks / three times per week. All outcome variables were measured before and <br/>after treatment program. Ventilatory Function (FVC, FEV1 , MVV and FEV1/FVC <br/>Ratio ) was assessed by Spirometer, 6 minute walking distance by 6MWT. Results: <br/>The results showed a significant increase in all outcome variables in both groups in <br/>the favor of group A. Conclusion: adding lung boost exercisers to conventional chest <br/>physical therapy was an effective modality for improving ventilatory functions among <br/>smokers. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية:يُعد التدخين من العوامل المميتة للصحة، إذ يحتوي على مواد ضارة تُعد سببًا رئيسيًا للعديد من الأمراض الخطيرة مثل الربو، والانسداد الرئوي المزمن، والتهاب الشعب الهوائية، وأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية. وقد استُخدم جهاز تعزيز الرئة لتحسين سعة الرئة والتنفس السطحي، كما يساعد في تقوية عضلات الرئتين.<br/>الهدف:هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من تأثير جهاز تعزيز الرئة على وظائف التهوية لدى الذكور المدخنين.<br/>المرضى والطريقة:شملت الدراسة أربعين رجلًا مدخنًا تدخينًا خفيفًا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 20 و30 عامًا، ويتراوح معدل استهلاكهم للتبغ بين 5 إلى 10 علب/سنة، ولديهم خبرة تدخين لا تقل عن 3 سنوات وما زالوا مدخنين، ويتراوح مؤشر كتلة الجسم لديهم بين 20 و29.9 كجم/م². تم تقسيمهم إلى مجموعتين متساويتين (n = 20):<br/>المجموعة (أ): تلقت برنامجًا علاجيًا باستخدام جهاز تعزيز الرئة بالإضافة إلى برنامج العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي للرئتين، والذي تضمن تمارين التنفس الحجابي وتمارين التنفس مع الشفتين المزمومتين.<br/>المجموعة (ب): تلقت برنامج العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي فقط بنفس التمارين المذكورة.<br/>تم تطبيق البرامج العلاجية ثلاث مرات أسبوعيًا لمدة ستة أسابيع. تم تقييم وظائف التهوية باستخدام جهاز قياس التنفس، وتم قياس مسافة المشي لمدة 6 دقائق (6MWT). وأُجريت التقييمات قبل وبعد البرنامج العلاجي.<br/>النتائج:أظهرت النتائج تحسنًا ملحوظًا في جميع المؤشرات لدى المجموعتين، مع تفوق واضح للمجموعة (أ) التي استخدمت جهاز تعزيز الرئة.<br/>الاستنتاج:إن دمج جهاز تعزيز الرئة مع العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي للصدر يُعد وسيلة فعّالة لتحسين وظائف التهوية لدى المدخنين. |
