| Summary, etc. | This dissertation investigates the role of digital literacy in enabling individuals to detect deepfake videos within the context of a post-truth society. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach, the study combines an experimental survey with 407 participants in Egypt and ten in-depth expert interviews across law, sociology, economics, and artificial intelligence. Participants were asked to evaluate the authenticity of a curated dataset of real and manipulated videos, while providing confidence ratings and identifying cues that informed their judgments. Quantitative analysis revealed that younger age groups and heavy internet users demonstrated higher detection accuracy, while formal education did not consistently enhance performance and, in some cases, produced overconfidence. Digital literacy emerged as a significant predictor of accurate detection, although its effect diminished when participants had prior exposure to the content. Respondents relied on both visual (lip-sync errors, facial motion, unnatural warping) and contextual (source credibility, prior knowledge) cues, though effectiveness varied across clips. Expert insights underscored the political, economic, and psychological risks of deepfakes, highlighted the inadequacy of current legal frameworks, and advocated for an expanded model of digital literacy encompassing technical, civic, ethical, and emotional resilience. The study concludes that addressing the deepfake challenge requires a comprehensive strategy that integrates education, robust detection tools, and adaptable regulatory measures. By situating the findings within the dual lens of post-truth and technological determinism, the dissertation contributes to both theory and practice, offering a framework for enhancing societal resilience against synthetic media in Egypt and beyond. |

| Summary, etc. | • تتناول هذه الرسالة دور التربية الرقمية في تمكين الأفراد من كشف مقاطع الفيديو المزيفة بتقنية «الديب فيك» في سياق مجتمع ما بعد الحقيقة. اعتمدت الدراسة منهجًا مختلطًا يجمع بين تجربة ميدانية عبر استبيان إلكتروني شمل (407) مشاركًا في مصر، ومقابلات متعمقة مع عشرة خبراء في مجالات القانون، علم الاجتماع، الاقتصاد، والذكاء الاصطناعي. طُلب من المشاركين تقييم مدى أصالة مجموعة منتقاة من الفيديوهات الحقيقية والمزيفة، مع تسجيل درجة الثقة وتحديد المؤشرات التي اعتمدوا عليها في الحكم. أظهرت التحليلات الكمية أن الفئة العمرية الأصغر سنًا ومستخدم الإنترنت لفترات طويلة يمتلكون قدرة أعلى على الكشف، في حين لم يُظهر التعليم الأكاديمي أثرًا إيجابيًا ثابتًا، بل ارتبط أحيانًا بالثقة المفرطة وضعف الدقة. كما برزت الثقافة الرقمية كعامل مؤثر في تحسين الأداء، لكن أثرها تراجع عندما كان المشاركون على دراية سابقة بالمحتوى. اعتمد المشاركون على دلائل بصرية (مثل تزامن حركة الشفاه، وحركة الوجه، والتشوهات غير الطبيعية) ودلائل سياقية (مثل مصداقية المصدر والمعرفة السابقة)، مع تفاوت فعاليتها بحسب المقطع. وأكدت آراء الخبراء على المخاطر السياسية والاقتصادية والنفسية للديب فيك، وعلى قصور الأطر القانونية الحالية، داعين إلى نموذج موسع للثقافة الرقمية يشمل الأبعاد التقنية والمدنية والأخلاقية والنفسية. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن مواجهة تحديات الديب فيك تتطلب استراتيجية شاملة تدمج بين التعليم، وأدوات كشف متطورة وموثوقة، وأطر تنظيمية مرنة وقابلة للتكيّف. ومن خلال توظيف منظوري «ما بعد الحقيقة» و«الحتمية التكنولوجية»، تسهم الرسالة في إثراء النظرية والممارسة، وتطرح إطارًا عمليًا لتعزيز مناعة المجتمع في مصر وخارجها ضد الإعلام الاصطناعي. |
