| Summary, etc. | Aim: This study evaluated the clinical performance of two different bioactive injectable flowable <br/>resin composite materials in restoring class V cavities over 18 months. <br/>Methods: Thirty-four participants with class V dental carious lesions were randomly enrolled in <br/>this study. The participants were allocated into two groups (n=17): Group 1 (the intervention <br/>group): Beautifil Flow Plus X. Group 2 (the comparator group): ACTIVA Bioactive restorative. <br/>The modified USPHS criteria were used to evaluate the restorations at baseline as well as after 6, 12 <br/>and 18 months. Categorical data were described as frequency and percentage, the Chi-Squared test <br/>was applied for intergroup comparisons between intervention and comparator while Cochran‘s Q <br/>test was used for intragroup comparison in each group followed by multiple comparisons. <br/><br/>Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the intergroup comparisons in marginal <br/>integrity, postoperative hypersensitivity, marginal discoloration, secondary caries, fracture, and <br/>retention criteria with (P = 1.0000) while (P> 0.05) in anatomical form and surface texture criteria. <br/>Intragroup comparison within Giomer based composite (Beautifil flow plus X) have shown <br/>significant difference in anatomical form between different follow-up periods (P = 0.029). While <br/>intragroup comparison within ACTIVA bioactive and Giomer based composite (Beautifil flow plus <br/>X) have shown significant difference in surface texture between different follow-up periods (P = <br/>0.007) and (P= 0.001) respectively. In survival analysis, ACTIVA group has shown 76.5% alpha <br/>score, while Beautifil group has shown 58.8% alpha score after 18 months with no difference <br/>between them (P = 0.2771). <br/>Conclusions: Both Giomer based composite (Beautifil flow plus X) and ACTIVA bioactive have <br/>acceptable clinical performance in restoring class V cavities after 18 months. This suggests that <br/>Giomer based composite (Beautifil flow plus X) may be a promising bioactive material in restoring <br/>class V carious lesions. <br/>Clinical Significance: Beautifil Flow Plus X injectable composite could be a promising material for <br/>restoring class V dental carious cavities. |
