| Summary, etc. | The ideal timeframe for delayed primary repair of flexor tendon injuries <br/>remains debated, with studies suggesting viable repair within three to six <br/>weeks or longer. This study examines management protocols based on <br/>the preoperative tendon gap, assessed via ultrasound, rather than time <br/>since injury. <br/>Ultrasound is essential for diagnosing tendon integrity, locating the <br/>proximal stump, and evaluating repairs. Advances in repair techniques <br/>allow early mobilization post-surgery. While primary repair occurs within <br/>24 hours, delayed primary repair is effective up to four weeks, especially <br/>if an experienced surgeon is unavailable. <br/>Research shows delayed primary repair can yield outcomes comparable to <br/>primary repair, with some studies indicating a reduced need for <br/>secondary surgeries. Functional evaluation criteria confirm its <br/>effectiveness, though there is a higher risk of tenolysis. Modern surgical <br/>protocols have extended the repair window, but beyond a certain point, <br/>reconstruction is preferable. |
