This study investigates the intricate relationships between the implementation of control
technologies, the adoption of sustainability practices, and the resulting impact on supply chain performance.
In an era demanding both operational excellence and environmental responsibility, this study aims to
empirically determine how strategic deployment of technologies designed for control and monitoring can
drive efficiencies and foster a more sustainable supply chain. Furthermore, it examines the mediating role
of sustainability practices in this relationship, exploring whether the positive effects of control technology
on performance are amplified or channeled through a commitment to environmental stewardship.

To address these objectives, the study formulated and tested several key hypotheses. The findings
robustly demonstrate a significant positive impact of control technology implementation on both supply
chain performance and environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, the study confirms a significant positive relationship between the adoption of
sustainability practices and superior supply chain performance, suggesting that environmentally conscious
supply chains are also high-performing ones. Critically, the study provides strong evidence for the partial
mediating role of sustainability practices in the relationship between control technology and supply chain
performance. This indicates that control technologies not only directly enhance performance but also
indirectly contribute by enabling and promoting more sustainable operational practices, which in turn drive
further performance improvements. The relationship between control technology and supply chain
performance is demonstrably stronger when sustainability is considered, underscoring the strategic
imperative of integrating sustainability into overarching supply chain strategies.

Delving deeper into the nuances of technology implementation, the study analyzed the relative
impact of different types of control technologies, including IoT systems, RFID technology, SAP modules,
Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and LoRa communication. The findings reveal varying
degrees of impact across these technologies, highlighting the importance of targeted technology adoption
based on specific organizational needs and strategic priorities. For instance, the consistent impact of
implementing an IoT system on automation and the "win-win" scenario offered by TMS in enhancing both
performance and sustainability are notable insights. Moreover, the study emphasizes the critical role of data
integration and visibility in maximizing the benefits derived from control technology implementation,
advocating for robust data management strategies, the study also explored the theoretical underpinnings of
these findings, linking them to established theories in operations management and sustainability. The results

xi

underscore the synergistic potential of combining technological advancements with a commitment to
sustainability, suggesting a pathway for organizations to achieve both economic and environmental benefits
in addition to the broad analysis, the study provides a tailored, phased technology implementation strategy
for Petrojet (PSCEM), a case example used to illustrate the practical application of the study findings. This
model prioritizes the adoption of specific technologies in a sequential manner, considering cost-
effectiveness and immediate impact. Phase one focuses on enhancing the bidding cycle through the
application of AVEVA ERM integrated with SAP S/4HANA, the implementation of an Electronic
Document Management System (EDMS), and the strategic use of blockchain technology for enhanced
transparency and efficiency. Phase two outlines a strategic expansion and optimization phase, prioritizing
the implementation of an IoT system for enhanced operational efficiency and safety, a TMS for optimized
transportation and sustainability, and LoRa communication for remote monitoring and data acquisition in
challenging environments.
In conclusion, this study provides compelling evidence for the positive and synergistic impact of
control technology implementation and sustainability practices on supply chain performance. It highlights
the strategic advantage of integrating these two critical aspects of modern business operations, offering both
theoretical contributions and practical guidance for organizations seeking to achieve operational excellence
while embracing environmental responsibility. The proposed phased technology implementation strategy
serves as a tangible roadmap for organizations like Petrojet to leverage these findings for tangible
improvements in their supply chain. |

| Summary, etc. |
