| Summary, etc. | Background: Scar tissue develops during the healing process after trauma <br/>or surgery, when fibrous tissue replaces the normal skin. Patients may <br/>experience discontent due to abnormal scars, particularly after undergoing <br/>cosmetic surgery. Consequently, Taping has been suggested as a method to <br/>reduce scar tension. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the <br/>effect of microporous taping on post-surgical hypertrophic scars. Subjects <br/>and Methods: Forty-Four patients (19 males and 25 females) with post-<br/>surgical hypertrophic scars were selected from Aga Hospital and randomly <br/>distributed into two equal groups. Their ages varied from 20 to 45 years. <br/>Group A (Microporous tape group) received Microporous tape in addition to <br/>traditional physiotherapy (deep friction massage and stretching exercises). <br/>Group B (Control group) received traditional physiotherapy (deep friction <br/>massage and stretching exercises). The treatment was administrated for eight <br/>weeks. Outcome measures: They were assessed with Vancouver Scar scale <br/>and A Schiotz tonometer for scar characteristics. Assessments were <br/>performed at baseline and after eight weeks of the treatment. Results: The <br/>results from this study revealed that the addition of Microporous tape to <br/>conventional physiotherapy significantly improved scar outcomes, as <br/>evidenced by the significant reductions in the Vancouver Scar Scale Scores <br/>and improvements in scar pliability. Conclusions: Microporous tape <br/>approves to be an effective modality for improving scar characteristics in <br/>postsurgical patients. |
