| Summary, etc. | Background: Acquired pneumonia is a significant complication in ICU patients,
often leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Metabolic parameters such
as blood glucose levels, lactate, and electrolytes are critical indicators of patient
health and may influence the risk of developing pneumonia. Understanding the
correlation between these parameters and the incidence of pneumonia could help
in devising better preventive and management strategies in intensive care
settings. Methods: A cohort of 100 ICU patients was analyzed to identify the
incidence of acquired pneumonia. Various metabolic parameters, including
blood glucose levels, lactate, electrolytes, and gas measurements, were recorded.
Data were collected on patient demographics, duration of mechanical ventilation,
and length of ICU stay. Results: The study found that 45% (68 out of 150
patients) of the ICU patients developed acquired pneumonia. The mean blood
glucose levels and lactate levels in these patients were 141.45 mg/dL and 2.6790
mmol/L, respectively. The average duration of mechanical ventilation was 4.81
days, and the mean length of ICU stay was 5.98 days. A significant positive
correlation was observed between blood glucose levels and pneumonia incidence
(correlation coefficient = 0.65, p < 0.01) as well as between lactate levels and
pneumonia incidence (correlation coefficient = 0.72, p < 0.01). Conclusion:
Elevated blood glucose and lactate levels are significantly correlated with an
increased incidence of acquired pneumonia in ICU patients. The data suggest
that meticulous monitoring and management of these metabolic parameters can
potentially reduce the risk of pneumonia and improve patient outcomes. |

| Summary, etc.
