| Summary, etc. | Background: Constipation during postmenopausal period is a prevalent condition <br/>that impacts women's physical, emotional, and social health. Acupressure can help <br/>relieving some symptoms of constipation, through promotion of peristalsis. <br/>Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of acupressure in the <br/>treatment of postmenopausal constipation. Methods: Sixty participants diagnosed <br/>with functional constipation, aged from 50 to 60 years and their BMI varied from <br/>25 to 30 kg/m2 were selected from the outpatient clinic of Obstetrics and <br/>Gynecology at El–Salam Specialized Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. They were divided <br/>randomly into two groups equal in number, study group (A) (n=30) received <br/>acupressure on the san jiao 6/ stomach 25/ spleen 15 and large intestine 4 ) <br/>acupoints, 1 minute for each point with 3 repetitions on both sides about 30 <br/>minutes/ session, 3 times / week in addition to diaphragmatic breathing exercises <br/>for 15 minutes/ session, 3 times /week and general bowel care advices, for 6 <br/>weeks, control group (B) (n=30) performed diaphragmatic breathing exercises for <br/>15 minutes/ session , 3times/ week in addition to general bowel care advices only <br/>as in group (A) for 6 weeks. Evaluation of constipation symptoms‘ severity and <br/>quality of life in both groups (A&B) were evaluated before the beginning and after <br/>the end of the study utilizing (PAC –SYM) and (PAC–QOL) questionnaires <br/>respectively. Results: Showed that there was a statistical significant reduction in <br/>the mean values of severity of constipation symptoms after treatment in both <br/>groups (A and B), favouring group (A) (P=0.001). Also, it showed a statistical <br/>significant improvement in the median values of patient's QoL post treatment in <br/>comparison to that of pre–treatment values in both groups (A and B) (P=0.001), in <br/>favor of group (A). Conclusion: It could be concluded that application of <br/>acupressure was effective in alleviating severity of constipation symptoms, and <br/>improving quality of life for postmenopausal women, suffering from functional <br/>constipation. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: يعد الإمساك مشكلة شائعة في فترة ما بعد انقطاع الطمث، حيث انها تؤثر على الصحة البدنية والنفسية والاجتماعية للسيدات. يمكن أن يساعد العلاج بالضغط على نقاط الإبر في تخفيف بعض أعراض الإمساك، من خلال تحفيز حركة الأمعاء الدقيقة. الغرض: أُجريت هذه الدراسة لتحليل تأثير العلاج بالضغط على نقاط الإبر في علاج الإمساك لدى السيدات بعد انقطاع الطمث. الطريقة: تم تشخيص ستين سيدة علي أنهن تعانين من الإمساك الوظيفي، وقد تراوحت أعمارهن ما بين 50 و60 عاما، وتراوح مؤشر كتلة الجسم لديهن بين ٢٥ و30 كجم/م2تم اختيارهن عشوائيا من العيادة الخارجية لأمراض النساء والتوليد في مستشفى السلام، القاهرة، مصر وقد تم تقسيمهن عشوائيًا إلى مجموعتين متساويتين في العدد مجموعة الدراسة (أ) (ن = 30) تلقت العلاج بالضغط على نقاط الوخز بالإبر علي سان جيو ٦/ معدة 25/ طحال 15/ الأمعاء الغليظة 4)، لمدة دقيقة واحدة لكل نقطة ,3 تكرارات على كلا الجانبين حوالي 30 دقيقة/ جلسة، 3 مرات في الأسبوع بالإضافة إلى تمرينات التنفس الحجابي لمدة 15 دقيقة ونصائح عامة للعناية بالأمعاء، لمدة 6 أسابيع و المجموعة الضابطة (ب) (ن = 30) أجرت تمرينات التنفس الحجابي لمدة 15 دقيقة/ 3 مرات في الأسبوع بالإضافة إلى نصائح عامة للعناية بالأمعاء فقط كما في المجموعة (أ) لمدة 6 أسابيع. تم تقييم التحسن في شدة أعراض الإمساك وجودة الحياة في كلتا المجموعتين (أ وب) قبل بداية وبعد نهاية الدراسة باستخدام استبيانات تقييم مريض الإمساك علي حسب الأعراض و تقييم الإمساك في الحياة اليومية للمريض على التوالي. النتائج: أظهرت انخفاضًا ذا دلالة إحصائية في متوسط قيم أعراض الإمساك بعد العلاج في كلتا المجموعتين (أ) و(ب) لصالح المجموعة (أ) (٠.٠٠١=p) . كما أظهرت انخفاضًا ذا دلالة إحصائية في القيمة المتوسطة لجودة الحياة بعد العلاج مقارنة بقيم ما قبل العلاج في كلا المجموعتين (أ وب)(٠.٠٠١=p) لصالح المجموعة (أ). ومن هنا يمكن أن نستنتجأن تطبيق العلاج بالضغط علي نقاط الإبر كان فعالًا في تخفيف شدة أعراض الإمساك، وتحسين جودة الحياة لديالسيدات، اللاتي تعانين من الإمساك الوظيفي بعد انقطاع الطمث. |
