| Summary, etc. | This thesis explores the impact of foreign aid on environmental sustainability in developing countries, using the Load Capacity Factor (LCF) as a measure of ecological balance. Drawing on data from 67 developing nations between 2000 and 2019, it applies a dynamic panel threshold regression model to capture the non-linear interactions between foreign aid, globalization, income, renewable energy, and urbanization. The results reveal a persistent ecological imbalance, characterized by declining biocapacity and high ecological footprints. Globalization is found to reduce LCF, especially at higher levels of integration, while foreign aid exerts a positive and environmentally beneficial effect across all levels of de facto globalization and under strong de jure globalization. Moreover, renewable energy and urbanization improve ecological outcomes, whereas economic growth alone remains insufficient for sustainability. |
