Summary, etc. This research investigates the integration of smart materials—specifically Shape Memory Alloys <br/>(SMA)—into kinetic façade systems to improve the thermal performance of highly glazed office <br/>buildings in hot-arid climates. A novel, passive shading system was developed using NiTi SMA actuators <br/>and polycarbonate louvers, enabling real-time responsiveness to ambient temperature changes without <br/>relying on mechanical motors or external energy. The methodology combined theoretical analysis with <br/>the construction and testing of a full-scale (1:1) façade prototype under real climatic conditions in Cairo, <br/>alongside simulation using Honeybee in Grasshopper. The study focused on optimizing façade <br/>performance for south, south-west, and west orientations. Results demonstrated up to 54.7% cooling <br/>load reduction on the south façade, 39.05% on the south-west, and 28.4% on the west, while <br/>maintaining adequate daylight autonomy. A performance-based design guideline was developed to assist <br/>architects in applying SMA in responsive façades, offering a low-maintenance, energy-efficient solution <br/>tailored to hot arid climates and dynamic building performance requirements.

Summary, etc. تتناول هذه الرسالة دمج المواد الذكية، وبشكل خاص سبائك الذاكرة الشكلية (SMA)، في أنظمة الواجهات الحركية لتحسين الأداء الحراري لمباني المكاتب الزجاجية في المناخات الحارة الجافة. تم تطوير نظام تظليل سلبي يعتمد على مشغلات NiTi-SMA وشرائح بولي كربونات يستجيب تلقائيًا لتغيرات الحرارة دون طاقة خارجية. شملت المنهجية تحليلًا نظريًا ومحاكاة باستخدام Honeybee ضمن Grasshopper، إلى جانب اختبار نموذج واقعي بالحجم الطبيعي في القاهرة. ركزت الدراسة على الواجهات الجنوبية والجنوبية الغربية والغربية. أظهرت النتائج خفض أحمال التبريد بنسبة تصل إلى 54.7% مع الحفاظ على إنارة طبيعية مناسبة. كما أُعدّ دليل تصميم قائم على الأداء لتطبيق SMA في الواجهات المستجيبة، مما يتيح حلولًا فعالة ومستدامة للمناخات الحارة.
