| Summary, etc. | Background: Sedentary lifestyle and obesity are major contributors to the global <br/>rise in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), with Egypt reporting a prevalence of <br/>15.56% among adults. Pancreatic volume and intrapancreatic fat are increasingly <br/>recognized as structural markers linked to β-cell dysfunction. While ultrasound <br/>and MRI face technical limitations in pancreatic assessment, multidetector <br/>computed tomography (MDCT) offers a practical, non-invasive alternative for <br/>evaluating pancreatic morphology and fat content. <br/>Methods: This cross-sectional analytic study was conducted over 20 months at <br/>the Radiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, with approval <br/>from the institutional ethics committee. It included 30 adults diagnosed with <br/>T2DM and 30 age-matched controls. All participants underwent clinical <br/>evaluation, and laboratory testing including oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), <br/>fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-hour postprandial glucose (PG120), and <br/>glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C). Contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scans <br/>were performed to quantify pancreatic volume and fat content. <br/>Results: Diabetic patients showed significantly elevated levels of OGTT, FPG, <br/>PG120, and HbA1C compared to controls (p < 0.001). Pancreatic volume is lower <br/>and pancreatic fat is higher in the T2DM group. Strong negative correlations were <br/>found between pancreatic measurements and glycemic markers, while a <br/>significant negative correlation was observed between pancreatic volume and fat <br/>content within the diabetic group. <br/>Conclusion: MDCT demonstrated reduced pancreatic volume and elevated fat <br/>content in patients with T2DM, both of which were associated with poor glycemic <br/>control. These findings underscore the potential role of MDCT in evaluating <br/>structural pancreatic changes in diabetic patients. |

| Summary, etc. | يعتبر نمط الحياة الخامل والسمنة من العوامل الرئيسية المساهمة في الارتفاع العالمي في معدل الإصابة بداء السكري من النوع الثاني، حيث تبلغ نسبة الانتشار في مصر حوالي 15.56٪ بين البالغين. يُعد كل من حجم البنكرياس ومحتوى الدهون داخل البنكرياس من المؤشرات الهيكلية المرتبطة بخلل وظيفة خلايا بيتا. ونظرًا لصعوبة تقييم البنكرياس باستخدام الموجات فوق الصوتية أو التصوير بالرنين المغناطيسي، يُعد التصوير المقطعي المحوسب متعدد الشرائحأداة عملية وغير باضعة لتقييم حجم البنكرياس وكمية الدهون فيه.<br/>جريت هذه الدراسة التحليلية المقطعية خلال مدة 20 شهرًا في قسم الأشعة بكلية الطب، جامعة القاهرة، بعد الحصول على موافقة لجنة أخلاقيات البحث العلمي. شملت الدراسة 30 مريضًا مصابًا بداء السكري من النوع الثاني و30 فردًا من الأصحاء من نفس الفئة العمرية. خضع جميع المشاركين لتقييم سريري وفحوصات معملية شملت اختبار تحمل الجلوكوز الفموي،الجلوكوز الصائم، الجلوكوز بعد ساعتين من الوجبة، والهيموغلوبين السكري.وتم إجراء تصوير مقطعي محوسب للبطن باستخدام صبغة وريديّة لقياس حجم البنكرياس ومحتوى الدهون.<br/>أظهرت النتائج أن المرضى المصابين بداء السكري من النوع الثاني لديهم مستويات مرتفعة بشكل ملحوظ في OGTT وFPG وPG120 وHbA1C مقارنةً بالمجموعة الضابطة .كما لوحظ انخفاض ملحوظ في حجم البنكرياس وزيادة محتوى الدهون لديهم. بالإضافة إلى وجدت علاقة عكسيه بين حجم البنكرياس ومحتوى الدهون داخل البنكرياس لدى مرضى السكري.<br/>أظهر التصوير المقطعي المحوسب متعدد الشرائحفعالية في تقييم التغيرات البنيوية في البنكرياس لدى مرضى السكري من النوع الثاني، حيث ارتبط كل من انخفاض حجم البنكرياس و زياده الدهون فيه بضعف السيطرة على مستوى السكر في الدم. وتدعم هذه النتائج دورالتصوير المقطعي المحوسب متعدد الشرائح كأداة تقييم غير باضعة لصحة البنكرياس في حالات السكري. |
