| Summary, etc. | Baicalin (BA), a flavonoid derived from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis, <br/>is increasingly recognized for its potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and <br/>immunomodulatory activities, making it a promising candidate for the management <br/>of various inflammatory diseases. In ophthalmology, BA has demonstrated efficacy <br/>in treating conditions such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, cataract, and retinal disorders, <br/>including macular edema and branch retinal vein occlusion, primarily by reducing <br/>inflammation, oxidative stress, and regulating vascular endothelial growth factor <br/>(VEGF) expression to preserve retinal structure and function. Furthermore, BA has <br/>shown the ability to lower intraocular pressure and enhance aqueous outflow, <br/>suggesting potential benefits in glaucoma management. Despite these therapeutic <br/>advantages, the clinical application of BA is hindered by its poor water solubility <br/>(67.03 ± 1.60 μg/mL). To overcome these challenges, novel drug delivery systems <br/>such as solid lipid nanoparticle (SLNs), cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, in-situ <br/>gel and surfactant-based ocular preparations have been developed, which improve <br/>the solubility of BA, its corneal permeability, and ocular bioavailability. |

| Summary, etc. | يُعد BA وهو أحد مركبات الفلافونويد المُستخلصة من جذور نبات Scutellariabaicalensis، من المركبات التي حظيت باهتمام متزايد نظرًا لنشاطه القوي كمضاد للالتهابات ومضاد للأكسدة بالإضافة إلى تأثيراته المناعية المُعدِّلة، مما يجعله مرشحًا واعدًا لإدارة العديد من الأمراض الالتهابية وأمراض العيون. وفي مجال طب العيون، أثبت BA فاعليته في علاج العديد من الحالات مثل التهاب الملتحمة، والتهاب القرنية، وإعتام عدسة العين (الساد)، وبعض اضطرابات الشبكية بما في ذلك الوذمة البُقعية وانسداد الوريد الشبكي الفرعي، وذلك بشكل رئيسي من خلال تقليل الالتهاب والإجهاد التأكسدي وتنظيم التعبير الجيني لعامل نمو بطانة الأوعية الدموية (VEGF)، بهدف الحفاظ على التركيب البنيوي والوظيفي للشبكية. كما أظهرت الدراسات قدرة BA على خفض ضغط العين الداخلي وزيادة تدفّق الخلط المائي، الأمر الذي يُشير إلى إمكانية الاستفادة منه في علاج الجلوكوما (المياه الزرقاء).<br/>ورغم هذه المزايا العلاجية الواعدة، إلا أنّ التطبيق السريري للBA ما زال يواجه عقبة أساسية تتمثل في ضعـف ذوبانيته في الماء (67.03 ± 1.60 μg/ml). ولتخطّي هذه العقبة، تم تطوير نظم توصيل دوائي مبتكرة مثل الجسيمات الدهنية الصلبة (SLNs) ، ومُعقّدات الاحتواء مع السيكلودكسترين، والمستحضرات الهلامية المتكوّنة موضعيًا (in situ gel) ، والمستحضرات العينية المعتمدة على المواد الخافضة للتوتر السطحي، والتي ساهمت جميعها في تحسين ذوبانية عقارال BA ونفاذيته عبر القرنية وتوافره الحيوي داخل العين.<br/>وبناءً على ذلك، تهدف هذه الرسالة إلى تطوير نظم توصيل دوائي مُطوّلة المفعول للBA، بهدف زيادة مدة بقائه على القرنية وتحسين التزام المريض بالعلاج |
