Egyptian cities are experiencing rapid urban growth, high carbon emissions, and a major loss of green spaces. Behind these visible problems lies a deeper issue: the lack of integration between urban design and landscape design. As a result, urban and landscape design processes have been carried out separately, leading to unsustainable outcomes and projects, showing a real need for a framework that brings the two fields together. To address this, the research introduces the Green Urban Design Approach (GUDA), a framework that combines urban and landscape design processes within a sustainability-based process to close this gap. The study was carried out in two stages. First, GUDA was developed through a review of international sustainability frameworks such as LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND), ESTIDAMA, and Egypt’s Green Pyramid Rating System (GPRS), as well as case studies like Vauban (Freiburg) and Kronsberg (Hannover). Second, the framework was tested on two Cairo neighborhoods (Heliopolis and Al-Jasmin), which revealed challenges in urban fabric, mobility, ecological connectivity, climate adaptation, and participatory planning. The results show that while sustainability is mentioned in Egypt’s policies, its practice is still limited. GUDA offers an integrated and flexible tool that brings ecological, social, and climate-responsive principles into the planning process. It can be used proactively to guide new projects before they are built, or reactively to assess existing projects and suggest improvements. In this way, GUDA provides planners, policymakers, and stakeholders with a clear roadmap for creating more sustainable and livable Egyptian Urban Areas. |

تشهد المدن المصرية نموًا عمرانيًا سريعًا مصحوبًا بتدهور بيئي ونقص واضح في المساحات الخضراء. ورغم وجود محاولات لمواجهة هذه التحديات عبر مشروعات عمرانية أو تدخلات من منظور التصميم العمراني أو تصميم المناظر الطبيعية، إلا أن المجالين ظلّا يعملان بصورة منفصلة. فالتصميم العمراني يركز عادة على الشكل العمراني والكثافة وشبكات النقل، في حين يهتم تصميم المناظر الطبيعية بالأداء البيئي والمساحات المفتوحة. هذه الفجوة أفرزت نتائج غير متوازنة؛ مدن جديدة ببنية تحتية قوية لكنها ضعيفة بيئيًا، أو مشاريع خضراء جيدة لكنها غير مندمجة مع النسيج العمراني المحيط.<br/>ومن هنا، يطرح هذا البحث الحاجة إلى إطار يدمج بين التصميم العمراني وتصميم المناظر الطبيعية كخطوة محورية نحو مستقبل حضري مستدام في مصر. وللإجابة عن هذا التحدي، يقترح البحث إطار "النهج الأخضر للتصميم العمراني" (GUDA) باعتباره أداة عملية موجهة للتصميم، تدمج البنية التحتية الخضراء، والاستخدام المستدام للأراضي، والمبادئ البيئية في صميم العملية العمرانية. وقد تمت دراسة حالتين دوليتين بارزتين (حي فوبان في فرايبورغ وكيرونسبيرغ في هانوفر) لإظهار كيف يمكن أن يتكامل الشكل العمراني مع التخطيط البيئي لتحقيق خفض الانبعاثات وتعزيز المرونة وجودة الحياة. كما تمت مراجعة بعض برامج التقييم البيئي مثل LEED وESTIDAMA والنظام المصري "الهرم الأخضر". ورغم أن كل برنامج منها يركز على جانب معين من الاستدامة مثل كفاءة الطاقة أو التصميم المعماري أو المجتمع العمراني، فإنها لم تضع مسألة التكامل بين التصميم العمراني وتصميم المناظر الطبيعية كأولوية رئيسية.<br/>وبناءً على ذلك، يقدّم إطار GUDA بُعدًا مختلفًا؛ إذ يشجع المخططين والمصممين على النظر إلى المباني والحركة والمساحات العامة والأنظمة البيئية كمنظومة مترابطة وليست عناصر منفصلة. كما يتميز بمرونته التي تجعله قابلًا للتطبيق في المشروعات العمرانية الجديدة وكذلك في تطوير الأحياء القائمة، الأمر الذي يوفر أساسًا أكثر توازنًا لتحقيق استدامة حضرية حقيقية في مصر<br/>وتظهر نتائج البحث أن دمج مبادئ المناظر الطبيعية في التصميم العمراني يعزز قدرة المدن المصرية على خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية، وتحسين الأداء البيئي، والارتقاء بجودة الحياة العامة. ويمكن تطبيق GUDA بأسلوب استباقي في المدن الجديدة عبر دمج الممرات الخضراء وضمان الترابط البيئي وتصميم مناطق متعددة الاستخدامات توازن بين الكثافة والمساحات المفتوحة. كما يمكن تطبيقه بأسلوب تفاعلي في الأحياء القائمة من خلال إعادة تأهيل البنية التحتية الرمادية بحلول خضراء، واسترداد المساحات المهملة، ومعالجة آثار الجزر الحرارية. بهذا، يعمل GUDA كأداة للتخطيط المستقبلي وأيضًا كحل عملي للتحديات الحالية.<br/>وفي الختام، يؤكد البحث أن مستقبل المدن المصرية المستدام لن يتحقق إلا عبر سد الفجوة بين التصميم العمراني وتصميم المناظر الطبيعية. فإطار GUDA لا يقدم مجرد نظرية، بل يضع خارطة طريق عملية تجعل التكامل ممكنًا وقابلًا للتنفيذ، بما يضمن الانتقال من نمو حضري مجزأ إلى عمرانية أكثر توازنًا ومرونة. |
