| Summary, etc. | The aetiology of otitis in dogs and cats is multifactorial and complex, involving <br/>bacterial and fungal pathogens. As empiric antimicrobial prescription is a common <br/>practice when treating such cases, antimicrobial resistance may represent a <br/>complicating factor. This study aimed to describe the microbiological features and <br/>susceptibility profiles of pathogens associated with 212 cases of external otitis, <br/>comprising 118 dogs and 94 cats. The specimens were processed to identify bacterial <br/>aetiologies following standard microbiological methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility <br/>was determined in vitro against 11 antibiotics based on the CLSI standardized <br/>procedures and interpretation criteria. PCR screening of isolated bacteria revealed that <br/>E. coli and K. pneumoniae harbored ESBL genes like blaTEM, blaCTX-M, and other <br/>resistance genes aadB and qnrB. Likewise, the other Gram-negative isolates of P. <br/>aeruginosa and P. mirabilis were also positive for the same resistance genes. Gram-<br/>positive S. aureus harbored blaZ and norA resistance genes. The presence of <br/>emerging rates of multidrug resistance observed in almost all of the isolates may alert <br/>for a near future of challenging veterinary cases unresponsive to first-line <br/>antimicrobials. |

| Summary, etc. | إن مسببات التهاب الأذن لدى الكلاب والقطط متعددة العوامل ومعقدة، وتشمل مسببات الأمراض البكتيرية والفطرية. ونظرًا لأن وصف مضادات الميكروبات التجريبية ممارسة شائعة في علاج مثل هذه الحالات، فقد تُمثل مقاومة مضادات الميكروبات عاملًا مُعقّدًا. هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى وصف السمات الميكروبيولوجية وملامح حساسية مسببات الأمراض المرتبطة بـ 212 حالة من التهاب الأذن الخارجية، شملت 118 كلبًا و94 قطة. عولجت العينات لتحديد مسببات الأمراض البكتيرية باتباع الطرق الميكروبيولوجية القياسية. حُددت حساسية مضادات الميكروبات في المختبر ضد 11 مضادًا حيويًا بناءً على إجراءات CLSI القياسية ومعايير التفسير. كشف فحص تفاعل البوليميراز المتسلسل (PCR) للبكتيريا المعزولة أن الإشريكية القولونية والكلبسيلية الرئوية تحملان جينات ESBL مثل blaTEM وblaCTX-M، وجينات مقاومة أخرى مثل aadB وqnrB. وبالمثل، أظهرت عزلات أخرى سلبية الغرام من الزائفة الزنجارية والزائفة المعجزة جينات مقاومة موجبة. احتوت المكورات العنقودية الذهبية موجبة الغرام على جينات مقاومة blaZ وnorA. قد يُنذر وجود معدلات ناشئة لمقاومة الأدوية المتعددة، الملحوظة في جميع العزلات تقريبًا، بحالات بيطرية صعبة لا تستجيب لمضادات الميكروبات من الخط الأول في المستقبل القريب. |
