| Summary, etc. | Background: Childhood obesity is linked to health problems as well as <br/>challenges with walking and balance. Over the past ten years, the <br/>prevalence of obesity in the cerebral palsy population has increased in the <br/>United States, ranging from 7.7 to 16.5%. Aim: The current study <br/>investigated the correlation between body mass index, balance and <br/>gross motor abnormalities in children with diplegia. Methods: This cross-<br/>sectional correlation study was conducted at the Outpatient Clinic at the <br/>Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University. The study included 104 <br/>diplegic children of both sexes aged from 5-10 years, 53 in group A <br/>(underweight and normal weight) and 51 in group B (overweight and <br/>obese), divided according to body mass index percentile for children and <br/>adolescents. Dynamic balance was evaluated by the overall stability index <br/>in the Biodex balance system and gross motor capacities were evaluated <br/>by standing and walking dimensions in Gross Motor Function <br/>Measurement GMFM-88. <br/>Results: The results revealed that body mass index had a moderate <br/>positive significant correlation with the overall stability index (r = 0.441, <br/>p = 0.001). Conversely, it showed a moderate negative significant <br/>correlation with gross motor capacities in both standing (r = -0.441, p = <br/>0.001) and walking (r = -0.552, p = 0.001), indicating that higher BMI <br/>was associated with poorer gross motor performance. Similarly, balance <br/>demonstrated a strong negative significant correlation with gross motor <br/>capacities, including standing (r = -0.770, p = 0.001) and walking (r = -<br/>0.735, p = 0.001). <br/>Conclusion: The significant correlations indicate that, in children with <br/>spastic diplegia, higher body mass index is associated with poorer balance <br/>performance and reduced gross motor capacities, particularly in standing <br/>and walking activities. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية:شهدت معدلات السمنة لدى المصابين بالشلل الدماغي في الولايات المتحدة ارتفاعًا خلال السنوات العشر الأخيرة، حيث تراوحت النسبة ما بين 7.7% إلى 16.5%. وترتبط السمنة بمشكلات صحية وصعوبات في المشي والتوازن. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى فحص العلاقة بين معامل كتلة الجسم، التوازن، والتطور الحركيلدى الأطفال المصابين بالشلل الدماغي التشنجي الثنائي.<br/>المنهجية:أُجريت هذه الدراسة المقطعية الارتباطية في العيادة الخارجية بكلية العلاج الطبيعي، جامعة القاهرة، واشتملت على 104 أطفال تتراوح أعمارهم بين 5 إلى 10 سنوات 53 طفلًا ضمن المجموعة الاولي، و51 طفلًا ضمن مجموعة الثانية. تم تقييم التوازن الديناميكي باستخدام مؤشرالثبات الكلي بجهازبيودكس، وتقييم التطور الحركيمن خلال بُعدي الوقوف والمشي في تصنيف الوظائف الحركية الإجمالية.<br/>النتائج:أظهرت النتائج وجود علاقات معنوية بين مؤشر كتلة الجسم والاتزان الديناميكيوالقدرات الحركية الإجماليةلدى الأطفال المصابين بالشلل الدماغي المزدوج. حيث وُجد ارتباط إيجابي معتدل بين مؤشر كتلة الجسم ومؤشرالثبات الكلي في حين وُجد ارتباط سلبي معتدل بين مؤشر كتلة الجسم والقدرات الحركية الاجمالية في كل من أنشطة الوقوف والمشي. كما أظهر مؤشر الثبات الكلي ارتباطًا سلبيًا قويًا مع مقياس القدرات الحركية الاجمالية<br/>الاستنتاج:يعاني الأطفال المصابون بالشلل الدماغي التشنجي الثنائي والذين يعانون من زيادة الوزن أو السمنة من تراجع ملحوظ في التوازن والقدرات الحركية الكبرى مقارنةً بأقرانهم ذوي الوزن الطبيعي. كما تبين وجود علاقة ارتباط قوية بين القدرات الحركية الكبرى ومؤشر التوازن الديناميكي. |
