| Summary, etc. | Background: Autistic spectrum disorder is a disorder characterized by significant <br/>deficits in social communication and interaction in addition to repetitive patterns of <br/>behavior or interests. Ketogenic diet is a dietary model that is low in carbohydrates, <br/>adequate in protein, and high in fat content and it is suspected to improve symptoms <br/>across a range of neuropsychiatric disorders including ASD. <br/>Aim: to detect effect of ketogenic diet on children with Autistic spectrum disorder. <br/>Methods: This is a randomized controlled clinical trial study including 34 autistic <br/>children, 17 children were on ketogenic diet for 3 month compared to 17 children on <br/>normal balanced diet for 3 month, recruited from general clinics of Cairo university <br/>specialized pediatric hospital, baseline GARS was done at the beginning then 3 month <br/>after dietary intervention, anthropometric measures, lab tests, close follow up were <br/>done. <br/>Results: pre- intervention Guilliam Autistic Rating score (GARS- 3) scores, 5.9% of <br/>the children in the ketogenic diet group had mild autism, 41.2% had moderate autism, <br/>52.9% had severe autism while 11.8% of the normal balanced diet group had mild <br/>autism, 35.3% had moderate autism, and 55.9% had severe autism. The difference <br/>was not statistically significant (P value 0.781). Three months after the intervention, <br/>the GARS- 3 scored showed that 5.9% of the ketogenic diet group children had mild <br/>autism, 76.5% had moderate autism, and 17.6% had severe autism while 11.8% of the <br/>normal balanced diet children had mild autism, 29.4% had moderate autism, and <br/>58.8% had severe autism. The difference between both groups was statistically <br/>significant (P value 0.016). <br/>Conclusion: ketogenic diet can be beneficial in ASD as it t can improve core <br/>symptoms of autism but needs close follow up to avoid any adverse effects. <br/>Anthropometric measures and nutritional follow up for all children with ASD. |

| Summary, etc. | اضطراب طيف التوحد عبارة عن حالة ترتبط بنمو الدماغ وتؤثر على كيفية تمييز الشخص للآخرين والتعامل معهم على المستوى الاجتماعي، مما يتسبب في حدوث مشكلات في التفاعل والتواصل الاجتماعي. كما يتضمن الاضطراب أنماط محدودة ومتكررة من السلوك. يُشير مصطلح "الطيف" في عبارة اضطراب طيف التوحد إلى مجموعة كبيرة من الأعراض ومستويات الشدة.<br/>يتضمن اضطراب طيف التوحد حالات كانت تعتبر منفصلة في السابق التوحد، ومتلازمة أسبرجر، واضطراب التحطم الطفولي وأحد الأشكال غير المحددة للاضطراب النمائي الشامل. لا زال بعض الأفراد يستخدمون مصطلح "متلازمة أسبرجر"، والتي يعتقد بوجه عام أنها تقع على الطرف المعتدل من اضطراب طيف التوحد.<br/>يبدأ اضطراب طيف التوحد في مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة ويتسبب في نهاية المطاف في حدوث مشكلات على مستوى الأداء الاجتماعي , على الصعيد الاجتماعي، في المدرسة والعمل , في حين لا يوجد علاج شافي لاضطراب طيف التوحد، إلا أن العلاج المكثف المبكر قد يؤدي إلى إحداث فارق كبير في حياة العديد من الأطفال.<br/>تمت هذه الدراسة في مستشفى الأطفال , كليه الطب جامعه القاهرة, و قد بلغ العدد الإجمالي لعينة الدراسة ٤٣ طفلًا مصابًا باضطراب طيف التوحّد في الفئه العمرية بين ٣- ١٠ سنين و قد تم تشخيص اضطراب طيف التوحّد لدى هؤلاء الأطفال من خلال التقييم السريري الذي أجراه طبيب نفسي للأطفال وتم تأكيد التشخيص باستخدام مقياس تصنيف التوحّد في الطفولة كارس.<br/>و قد كشفت الدراسة أنه فيما يتعلق بتغير وزن الأطفال المصابين بالتوحّد قبل وبعد التدخل الغذائي الكيتوني، فإن نسبة التغير في الوزن كانت ذات دلالة إحصائية عالية جدًا. و قد تبين أيضا من خلال هذه الدراسة أن غالبية الأطفال المصابين بالتوحّد الذين اتبعوا الحمية الكيتونية قد تحسّنوا في درجة التوحّد ، حيث كان التغيّر في التقييم بعد التدخل الغذائي (بعد 3 أشهر من الحمية الكيتونية) ذا دلالة إحصائية عالية جدًا , بينما غالبية الذين اتبعوا نظامًا غذائيًا متوازنًا عاديًا ظلّت لديهم درجة التوحّد كما هي. |
