520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the bacterial count potential of cinnamon extract irrigant compared to sodium hypochlorite irrigant following pulpectomy of primary teeth.
Methodology: The sample size included 38 children with non-vital primary teeth indicated for pulpectomy, selected from the Outpatient clinic of Pediatric Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. Children′s teeth were divided into two equal groups (19 each): Group A: In the intervention group, root canals were irrigated using 5 % Cinnamon Extract. Group B: In the control group, root canals of this group were irrigated with a 1:5 ratio of Sodium hypochlorite. Bacterial count was measured by colony-forming units (CFUs). Bacterial counts were measured for samples from both groups at baseline and after irrigation.
Results: Group I and Group II showed no statistically significant difference between the cinnamon and sodium hypochlorite. Examining both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria before and after an intervention by using Mann-Whitney’s test, which demonstrated no significant differences between the groups (p > 0.05 for all comparisons). This suggests that the intervention had similar effects on bacterial reduction in both groups.
Conclusion: This study highlights the potential of 5% cinnamon extract as a natural and effective alternative to sodium hypochlorite in pulpectomy procedures. With its powerful antibacterial properties, biocompatibility, and reduced risk of adverse effects, cinnamon extract offers a safer and more holistic approach to managing infections in primary teeth with its natural origin, safety profile, and bioactive components such as cinnamaldehyde, presents itself as a promising alternative irrigant, particularly in pediatric dentistry and resource-constrained settings. In an era where patient safety, sustainability, and the integration of natural remedies are paramount, cinnamon extract stands out as a promising candidate to revolutionize pediatric endodontics. While the results are encouraging, further large-scale clinical trials and long-term evaluations are essential to validate its application and establish standardized protocols.By embracing nature’s solutions, dentistry can move toward more patient-friendly and environmentally conscious practices, making cinnamon extract not just a treatment option but a step toward redefining modern dental care for children.
520 #3 - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
