520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This study suggested an effective enrichment technique for isolation of new bacterial strains capable of degrading carbazole from two coke samples. The most efficient carbazole degrader BS1 was identified as Bacillus clausii, as determined by 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis. BS1 was capable of degrading 94.25% of 1000 ppm carbazole within 7d of incubation at 30{u00B0}C, pH7 and 200 rpm. Based on five levels of factorial CCD and RSM, the optimum value of Tween 80 and yeast extract concentration for obtaining higher CAR degradation was about 0.861% (v/v) and 0.868 g/L for BS1, respectively. The Fe O coated BS1 showed the highest degradation activity (99.18%) than those with free cells (94.25%) after 168 h
