520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Change is an essential part of life as well as that of any organization.Change may be undertaken for different purposes, but the need for improvements tend to be the overarching aim for change. Sustainability has appeared as an alternative to development models prioritizing economic activities to the exclusion of the environmental and social dimensions. It aims to produce a dynamic balance among economic, environmental and social aspects, and the time dimension. This thesis focuses on large corporations, which are increasingly recognized as having the potential to help societies become more Sustainability orientated. Limited studies on change management towards sustainability in extractive industries sector across the world reveal lack of change management model or framework towards sustainability. Change management models and sustainability are critically examined with the view to identify and determine factors that may facilitate change towards sustainability in the Extractive industries sector in Egypt. The oil and gas sector in Egypt is part of the extractive industries sector, and since the mining sector is still emerging this limits the scope of this study to the oil and gas sector{u2019}s organizations.Through extended literature review, the definitions, concepts and theories of sustainability and change management are examined to identify essential elements for successful change management towards sustainability. This was done by evaluating factors that drive change, evaluating change status in oil and gas sector through survey by questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, where 12 directors were interviewed, involved 4 policy makers from the ECHEM (Egyptian Petrochemicals holding Company), and eight senior industrial practitioners, while a survey was completed by 262 employees in the same organizations. The mixed-methods approach involved a survey-based questionnaire and interviews (semi-structured). Data analysis was performed through triangulation of the qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results show that that there is a significant statistical relationship for all the research hypotheses (independent variables) and the organizational change towards sustainability (dependent variable), this statistical relationship varies in magnitude from very strong, then strong, medium and weak
