حتلَّت التنمية المستدامة، وخاصة الاستدامة البيئية؛ بؤرة اهتمام وأولويات أجندة المجتمع الدولي في السنوات الأخيرة، وقد توجَّهت أنظار العالم إلى ضرورة نشر الوعي البيئي عبر المجتمعات، مما استلزم توظيف وسائل الإعلام المختلفة بوصفها الأكثر ملاءمة في التعريف بأي قضية كانت، وإظهارها للرأي العام لتأخذ حيزًا من الاهتمام، ومن ثَمَّ هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف بكيفية معالجة القضايا البيئية في بعض الصحف العربية (الأهرام المصرية، وأخبار الخليج البحرينية، والمساء الجزائرية، والديار اللبنانية) في ضوء الأهداف الإنمائية
(6، و7، و12، و13، و14، و15) وذلك في الفترة من يناير 2015 إلى ديسمبر 2019، وقد وظَّفت الدراسة منهج المسح الإعلامي، وأسلوب المقارنة المنهجية، واعتمدت على أداة تحليل المضمون، ونظرية الأطر الإعلامية.
وتوصَّلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من النتائج، كان أبرزها: أنه على الرغم من تنوع القضايا البيئية ومشكلاتها المطروحة على صفحات الصحف الأربعة، فإنَّ الصحف العربية (عينة الدراسة) لم تقُم بالدور المنوط بها لمعالجة القضايا البيئية ذات الأولوية للدول العربية، فقد أظهر التحليل أن حجم تغطيات تلك الصحف للقضايا البيئية لا يتناسب مع حجم المشكلات البيئية التي تعانى منها الدول، وأنه غير كاف لرفع الوعي البيئي، وتغيير سلوك أفراد المجتمع.
وأوصت الدراسة بضرورة إعطاء الأولوية لقضايا ومشكلات البيئة، وخاصة القضايا البيئية ذات الأولوية للدول العربية، وأهداف التنمية المستدامة 2030 في أجندة الصحف العربية، ووسائل الإعلام ككل، ومعالجة القضايا البيئية بالقدر الذي يتوازى مع خطورة نتائجها على جميع الأصعدة من خلال تقديم مادة غنية ذات طابع فكري وتحليلي وتفسيري بدلًا من تقديم مادة إخبارية بحتة.

Sustainable development, especially environmental sustainability, has occupied the attention and priorities of the international community in the recent years. The world’s attention was drawn to the need to spread environmental awareness across societies. This necessitated the employment of the various media as the most appropriate in introducing any issue, and showing it to the public opinion to receive attention. Thus, this study aimed to identify how to address environmental issues in some Arab newspapers, namely Al-Ahram, Akhbar Al Khaleej, Al-Massa, and Al-Diyar in light of the development goals (6, 7, 12, 13, 14 and 15) in the period from January 2015 to December 2019. The current study used the media survey method and the method of systematic comparison, and relied on the content analysis tool and the theory of media frameworks. The study reached a set of results, the most prominent of which were: despite the diversity of environmental issues and their problems raised on the pages of the four newspapers, the study sample newspapers did not fulfill the role assigned to it to address the priority environmental issues of the Arab countries. The analysis showed that the volume of coverage of these newspapers environmental issues is not commensurate with the size of the environmental problems that countries suffer and is not sufficient to raise environmental awareness and change the behavior of community members. The study recommended the need to give priority to environmental issues and problems, especially priority environmental issues for Arab countries, and the 2030 sustainable development goals in the agenda of Arab newspapers, and the media as a whole. Addressing environmental issues to the extent that is parallel to the seriousness of its consequences at all levels by presenting a rich material of an intellectual, analytical and interpretive nature instead of providing a purely news material
