The rapid need for utilization of renewable energy on a large scale in the electrical networks, was always limited by the power quality constrains. i.e., Transient stability. The low inertia of wind turbines kept their contribution to the utility scall networks to the minimum, so it can be curtailed in case of any disturbances. This thesis examines the Transient stability of a power system as wind energy penetration rises. This study looked at the implications of expanding the penetration of Doubly-Fed Induction Generator-based Wind Energy Conversion System in the power system. The analysis here were conducted for grid fault operations. The research case was an IEEE-9 bus test system. The student version of the power system analysis software PSSE Xplore V34 was used to run the simulations. Furthermore, the effects of integrating Energy storage device (Battery Energy storage System) to the system are investigated. The results demonstrate that integrating the BESS system into the network improved the study system’s transient stability. Using BESS to the system shows increasing of penetration level with 15%. Moreover, the optimum location for integrating the BESS system was investigated and general guidelines for the location was illustrated. As a result, for a transient-stable grid operation with rising wind energy penetration, energy storage devices should be included.
