Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.)-Cairo University, 2024. Summary: Background: Mastectomy after breast cancer is usually accompanied by shoulder dysfunction and weakness which interferes with the daily life activities of the patients. Objectives: The study was conducted to evaluate the impact of biofeedback training on shoulder strength and function post mastectomy. Design: A single blinded randomized controlled trial. Setting: out patient from bahyea foundation. Participants: Fifty-four female patients, their ages ranged from 40 to 55 years, suffering from muscle weakness , were allocated randomly into two equal groups: The study group (group A), managed by biofeedback strengthening exercises beside their traditional physical therapy program. The Control group (group B), managed by the traditional physical therapy program only, Intervention: Trial was applied for (three sessions/ week) and lasted for six weeks Outcome measures: Shoulder muscles strength by using hand held dynamometer of flexion, abduction and external rotation, were measured pre and post six-weeks of treatment. Results: After 6 weeks of treatment, percentage of change in shoulder muscle strength, shoulder flexion, abduction and external rotation was 83.20% , 95.08% , 81.90%. respectively in the study group and 59,57%, 71.10%, 63.9%., respectively. in the control group, In all measures, there was a statistically significant difference in favour of the study group (p = 0.001) for flexion and abduction, (p = 0.002) For external rotation. Conclusion: It could be concluded that add in biofeedback training exercises are more effective in improving shoulder function regarding muscle strength than using the conventional physical therapy program only.
