Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) -Cairo University, 2024. Summary: Cities face numerous challenges as they undergo growth and urbanization, necessitating interventions to address these issues. This study focuses on mobility- related interventions, particularly in the context of street networks’ expansion actions within Greater Cairo’s neighborhoods. These actions involve widening streets and constructing flyovers, to alleviate traffic problems. However, while these actions may temporarily address traffic issues, they have significant impacts on the neighborhoods that they cut through. Furthermore, these interventions often prioritize the needs of motorized vehicles, neglecting the needs of active mobility users. This study aims to analyze the impact of such actions on the urban design qualities associated with active mobility and the significant physical features that contribute to these qualities. The study conducts a descriptive comparative analysis between the state of these qualities and their physical features before and after the expansions, through the case study of expansion actions within Heliopolis neighborhood, with a great focus on its significant streets: Al Ahram and Abu Bakr El Sedeeq streets.Summary: تواجه المدن العديد من التحديات أثناء نموها وتطورها، مما يستلزم بعض التدخالت لمعالجة هذه التحديات. تركز هذه الدراسة على التدخالت المتعلقة بالتنقل، خاصة في سياق إجراءات توسيع شبكات الشوارع داخل أحياء القاهرة الكبرى. وتشمل هذه اإلجراءات توسيع الشوارع وإنشاء الجسور لتخفيف المشاكل المرورية. ومع ذلك، في حين أن هذه اإلجراءات قد تعالج مشكالت المرور بشكل مؤقت، إال أن لها تأثيرات كبيرة على األحياء التي تمر بداخلها. عالوة على ذلك، تعطي هذه التدخالت األولوية الحتياجات المركبات اآللية، مع إهمال احتياجات مستخدمي التنقل النشط. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل تأثير مثل هذه التوسعات على خصائص التصميم العمرانى المرتبطة بالتنقل النشط والسمات المادية الهامة التي تساهم في هذه الخصائص. وتقوم الدراسة بإجراء تحليل وصفي مقارن بين حالة هذه الخصائص وسماتها المادية قبل وبعد التوسعات، من خالل دراسة أعمال توسيع شبكة الشوارع داخل حي مصر الجديدة، مع التركيز بشكل كبير على شوارعها الهامة: األهرام وأبو بكر الصديق.

Cities face numerous challenges as they undergo growth and urbanization,
necessitating interventions to address these issues. This study focuses on mobility-
