تقع منطقة الدراسة غرب وادى النيل، بين خطى طول ً22.8 َ51 ْ29 ، ً33.6 ً7 ْ31 شرقاً، ودائرتى عرض ً55.5 َ57 28 ْ ، ً41.1 َ43 ْ29 شمالا، بمساحة تبلع حوالى 5852.12كم2. وتضم هذه الدراسة خمس فصول، ويتناول الفصل الأول الضوابط الطبيعية و البشرية لمنطقة الدراسة، وقد اشار الفصل الثاني للاشكال والوحدات الجيومورفولوجية بالمواقع الأثرية ،وقد تناول الفصل الثالث دور وتأثير عمليات التجوية في تدهور المواقع الأثرية، ومن ثم في الفصل الرابع يوضح نشاط عمليات الارساب والنحت وأثرهم علي تلك المواقع ، ويتناول الفصل الخامس وضع قواعد بيانات جغرافية للمواقع الأثرية، ونماذج تاريخية لإغلب المواقع الأثرية بمنطقة الدراسة، وتطبيق تحليل SWOT لتحددي نقاط القوى و الضعف بمنطقة الدراسة.
The study area is located in the west of the Nile Valley, between longitudes 22.8 ً 51 َ 29 ْ and 33.6 ً 7 َ 31 ْ east, and latitudes 55.5 ً 57 َ 28° and 41.1 ً 43 َ 29° north, with an area covering about 5852.12 km2. This study includes five chapters. The first chapter deals with the natural and human controls of the study area. The second chapter referred to the forms and geomorphological units of archaeological sites. The third chapter dealt with the role and impact of weathering processes on the deterioration of archaeological sites, and then in the fourth chapter it explains the activity of sedimentation processes. And sculpture and their impact on those sites. The fifth chapter deals with developing geographical databases for archaeological sites, historical models for most of the archaeological sites in the study area, and applying SWOT analysis to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the study area.
