This thesis explores the theoretical implications and practical applications of Green Project Management (GPM) for achieving sustainable project success within the maritime transportation sector. Marine shipping is an important part of the global economy and greatly impacts worldwide trade. Still, it faces increasing environmental constraints such as resource depletion, greenhouse gas emissions, and marine pollution. According to this study, improving project outcomes and advancing sustainability in maritime operations need to incorporate GPM concepts into project management frameworks.
Over the past few years, green project management has leapfrogged in the movement of buildings, technology, and many more areas remarkably. while an emphasis was placed on environmental sustainability to construct greener projects.
This research is based on a research question, which is considered the problem on which the study is based. Is the process of sustainability, which is a new school of thought in green project management, will support the success of the Sustainable project in the Marine shipping industry? This research will try to solve this problem or answer the research question.
The process of integrating sustainability into green project management may support the success of sustainable projects. There is a very important need for more evidence to support this result. Few relevant empirical studies have studied this research topic. Sustainability is a new school in green project management, and there are recommendations in many studies to study this topic.
Green project success is the main endeavor in the process of integrating sustainability into project management and should be a major criterion when looking at sustainability as a new school of thought in this field. The most difficult elements of project success that need to be addressed cost and time, and the study contributes to a better understanding of the impact of green projects to reach the success of sustainable projects.
The Research Problem and Goal
This study addresses a central research question: Can the sustainability process, as an emerging paradigm in green project management, enhance the success of sustainable projects in the shipping industry? The research stems from a recognized gap in the practical application of green project management within this sector, as highlighted by prior studies emphasizing the need for further exploration of its implementation and its potential to drive sustainable project success and competitive advantage.




The research was initiated during Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 conference, a pivotal moment in global efforts to advance and support green projects. This context underscores the significance of the study, as it aligns with the global movement toward sustainability and the urgent need for innovative approaches in industries like maritime shipping.
Research Importance
In this research paper, we seek to address a critical question: Does the integration of sustainability as a new paradigm in green project management contribute to project success in the navigation sector? To thoroughly explore this question, the study will analyze various aspects of the relationship between the variable of Green Project Management (GPM) and the variable of sustainable project success within the maritime industry. The achievement of GPM will be examined through three primary dimensions: Economic, Social, and Environmental. This comprehensive analysis aims to provide insights into how these dimensions interact to foster successful sustainable projects in the navigation sector.
Research Results
From the inception of this research to the present, the findings have demonstrated the potential effectiveness of achieving successful sustainable projects by promoting green projects within the maritime sector. However, the research also identified several challenges, which were thoroughly examined throughout the study. Notably, in 2024, the first green project was piloted at one of the Egyptian ports as an experimental initiative for green project implementation in the maritime sector.
Despite facing difficulties during its execution, this practical experience significantly contributed to the research process and strengthened the foundation of this study.This real-world application underscored the feasibility of green projects and their role in supporting the success of sustainable projects in maritime shipping. Additionally, the research highlights the critical importance of involving stakeholders, leveraging a competitive advantage framework, and addressing several key factors discussed in detail within the chapters of this study. These insights aim to pave the way for the broader application of green projects in the maritime industry.





The results of this study show that by encouraging environmental stewardship and improving stakeholder participation, the application of GPM principles greatly adds to the success of sustainable projects. Increased resource efficiency, decreased environmental effects, and higher stakeholder satisfaction are all linked to projects that incorporate GPM techniques. The study does, however, also point out enduring obstacles to the broad implementation of GPM, such as financial limitations, complicated regulations, and a lack of knowledge and training among project managers.
Future Recommendations
The research highlights several future recommendations aimed at advancing the implementation of green projects in the maritime sector. One key focus is the role of innovation and technology in driving progress, emphasizing the need to improve technologies, and enhance digitization to facilitate the adoption of green projects, ultimately contributing to the success of sustainable projects in this sector.
Additionally, the research stresses the importance of stakeholder involvement in green projects, outlining mechanisms for their effective participation. It also addresses the development and enforcement of standards and regulations that govern green projects, guiding how these frameworks can be applied in practical, real-world scenarios to ensure successful implementation and long-term sustainability.
In conclusion, by offering a thorough theoretical examination of GPM's function in the maritime transportation sector, this thesis adds to the body of knowledge on project management and sustainability. It promotes the incorporation of GPM principles into conventional project management procedures, stressing that doing so is essential for long-term sustainability in the marine transportation industry as well as for project success. This study highlights the potential for maritime organizations to spearhead initiatives that tackle global environmental issues while maintaining economic viability and resilience in a changing business landscape by establishing GPM as a crucial driver of sustainable growth. The study's conclusions and suggestions form the basis for further investigation and application in the field of project management and sustainability.




The project is organized into seven chapters, each addressing specific aspects of the research.
Chapter I: Introduction: This chapter provides an overview of the thesis, including a review of relevant literature, the definition of the research problem, and the significance of the study. It outlines the research hypotheses and objectives, establishing the foundation for the detailed discussions in the subsequent chapters.
Chapter II: Foundations of Green Project Management: The second chapter delves into, encompassing comprehensive definitions and a thorough literature review. This section aims to establish a robust understanding of the theoretical underpinnings that inform sustainable practices within project management.
Chapter III: Applications and Challenges in Green Project Management: The third chapter investigates the applications and challenges associated with green project management, focusing on its three critical dimensions. Each dimension is articulated in detail, elucidating the rationale for their selection and their significance in achieving sustainable project outcomes. This exploration highlights the complexities and considerations necessary for effective implementation in real-world scenarios.
Chapter IV: Sustainable Project Success in the Marine Shipping Industry: This chapter emphasizes sustainable project success in the marine shipping sector. It discusses previous studies related to this dimension and its importance while also considering future trends that may influence its development.
Chapter V: Research Methodology: The fourth chapter outlines the research methodology, explaining the sample population and the ethnographic analysis conducted. It also includes a timeline for the research process.
Chapter VI: Statistical Analysis: This chapter presents the statistical analysis of the data collected, integrating theoretical frameworks from the introduction and research to support the findings.
Chapter VII: Research Findings and Conclusion: The final chapter summarizes the key findings and conclusions from the statistical analysis, reinforcing the research hypotheses and providing a comprehensive overview of the study's contributions.

يستند هذا البحث إلى سؤال بحثي، والذي يعتبر المشكلة التي تستند إليها الدراسة. هل عملية الاستدامة، وهي مدرسة فكرية جديدة في إدارة المشاريع الخضراء، ستدعم نجاح المشروع المستدام في صناعة الشحن البحري؟ حيث سيحاول هذا البحث حل هذه المشكلة أو الإجابة على سؤال البحث.
من الممكن ان تدعم عملية دمج الاستدامة في إدارة المشاريع الخضراء نجاح المشاريع المستدامة. حيث ان هناك حاجة ماسة للغاية لمزيد من الأدلة لدعم هذه النتيجة. لقد درست دراسات تجريبية ذات صلة قليلة هذا الموضوع البحثي وذلك لان الاستدامة هي مدرسة جديدة في إدارة المشاريع الخضراء، وهناك توصيات في العديد من الدراسات لدراسة هذا الموضوع.
يعتبر نجاح المشروع الأخضر هو المسعى الرئيسي في عملية دمج الاستدامة في إدارة المشاريع ويجب أن يكون معيارًا رئيسيًا عند النظر إلى الاستدامة كمدرسة فكرية جديدة في هذا المجال وتساهم الدراسة في فهم أفضل لتأثير المشاريع الخضراء للوصول إلى نجاح المشاريع المستدامة.
مشكلة البحث وهدفه
هذه الدراسة تناولت سؤالاً بحثياً أساسيا وهو: هل يمكن لعملية الاستدامة كمدرسه فكريه جديده في إدارة المشاريع الخضراء، أن تعزز نجاح المشاريع المستدامة في صناعة الشحن؟
لقد نبع البحث من فجوة معترف بها في التطبيق العملي لإدارة المشاريع الخضراء داخل هذا القطاع، كما أبرزت الدراسات السابقة التي تؤكد على الحاجة إلى مزيد من الاستكشاف لتطبيقها وإمكاناتها في دفع نجاح المشاريع المستدامة والميزة التنافسية.
بدأ البحث أثناء استضافة مصر لمؤتمر الأطراف السابع والعشرين، وهي لحظة محورية في الجهود العالمية لتعزيز ودعم المشاريع الخضراء. ويؤكد هذا السياق على أهمية الدراسة، حيث يتماشى مع الحركة العالمية نحو الاستدامة والحاجة الملحة إلى مناهج مبتكرة في صناعات مثل الشحن البحري.
أهمية البحث
تسعي هذه الدراسة إلى معالجة سؤال بالغ الأهمية: هل يساهم دمج الاستدامة كمدرسه فكريه جديده في إدارة المشاريع الخضراء وفي نجاح المشاريع في قطاع الملاحة بشكل خاص ولاستكشاف هذا السؤال بشكل عام، ستقوم الدراسة بتحليل جوانب مختلفة للعلاقة بين متغير إدارة المشاريع الخضراء ومتغير نجاح المشاريع المستدامة داخل الصناعة البحرية. سيتم تحليل تحقيق إدارة المشاريع الخضراء من خلال ثلاثة أبعاد أساسية: الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية. يهدف هذا التحليل الشامل إلى تقديم رؤى حول كيفية تفاعل هذه الأبعاد لتعزيز المشاريع المستدامة الناجحة في قطاع الملاحة.


نتائج البحث
منذ بداية هذا البحث وحتى الوقت الحاضر، أثبتت النتائج الفعالية المحتملة لتحقيق مشاريع مستدامة ناجحة من خلال تعزيز المشاريع الخضراء داخل القطاع البحري. ومع ذلك، حدد البحث أيضًا العديد من التحديات، والتي تم فحصها بدقة طوال الدراسة. والجدير بالذكر أنه في عام 2024، تم تجريب أول مشروع أخضر في أحد الموانئ المصرية كمبادرة تجريبية لتنفيذ المشاريع الخضراء في القطاع البحري.
على الرغم من مواجهة الصعوبات أثناء تنفيذه، ساهمت هذه التجربة العملية بشكل كبير في عملية البحث وعززت أساس هذه الدراسة. وقد أكد هذا التطبيق الواقعي على جدوى المشاريع الخضراء ودورها في دعم نجاح المشاريع المستدامة في الشحن البحري. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، يسلط البحث الضوء على الأهمية الحاسمة لإشراك أصحاب المصلحة، والاستفادة من إطار الميزة التنافسية، ومعالجة العديد من العوامل الرئيسية التي تمت مناقشتها بالتفصيل في فصول هذه الدراسة. تهدف هذه الرؤى إلى تمهيد الطريق للتطبيق الأوسع للمشاريع الخضراء في الصناعة البحرية.

وفي الختام، من خلال تقديم فحص نظري شامل لوظيفة إدارة المشاريع الحكومية في قطاع النقل البحري، تضيف هذه الأطروحة إلى مجموعة المعارف المتعلقة بإدارة المشاريع والاستدامة. وهي تشجع على دمج مبادئ إدارة المشاريع الحكومية في إجراءات إدارة المشاريع التقليدية، مؤكدة أن القيام بذلك ضروري للاستدامة طويلة الأجل في صناعة النقل البحري وكذلك لنجاح المشروع. تسلط هذه الدراسة الضوء على إمكانات المنظمات البحرية في قيادة المبادرات التي تعالج القضايا البيئية العالمية مع الحفاظ على الجدوى الاقتصادية والمرونة في مشهد الأعمال المتغير من خلال ترسيخ إدارة المشاريع الحكومية كمحرك أساسي للنمو المستدام. تشكل استنتاجات الدراسة واقتراحاتها الأساس لمزيد من التحقيق والتطبيق في مجال إدارة المشاريع والاستدامة.
