Dissertation note: Thesis (PH.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty Of Physical Therapy - Department Of Cardiopulmonary and Geriatrics Disorders Summary: Phrenic nerve injury is a well known complication after open - heart surgeriesThis complication can , unfortunately , affect the out come of the operation although it is from surgical point of view is completely succeededPresent study aimed to detect the incidence of this complication in an Egyptian hospital , study the possible risk factors responsible for this complication , recognize the consequence of this injurynd found out if low power laser irradiation could be effective therapeutic measure enhancing PN recoveryStudy was conducted in cardio - thoracic department , Kasr AL - Aini hospital , Faculty of medicine , Cairo UniversityThis department has advantage of high variable rate of patientsIt resembles one of the greatest department in that specialty in EgyptStudy was continued for 19 months from December 2003 to July 2005study group (75 patients) were subjected to pre and post - operative evaluative measures to diagnose PN injured patientsThese evaluative measures included nerve conduction study , ventilatory function tests and plain chest X - ray
