Background: Diabetes mellitus technology program (DMTP) is a mobile application that emerged as an essential tool in managing diabetes potentially aiding elderly patients in achieving better glycaemic control and enhancing their competency level. This study aims to evaluate the effect of a diabetes mellitus technology program on elderly competency level, glycaemic control and quality of life. Method: A quasi-experimental design was used, with 60 diabetic elderly patients who were randomly assigned to either an intervention group (n=30) or a control group (n=30). The intervention group participated in the seven-sessions educational program using a mobile application designed for diabetes management. Pre, post and follow-up assessments were conducted. Study tools: 1- Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C). 2- Elderly competency of diabetes mellitus management tool. 3- Revised version of diabetes quality of life questionnaire (RV-DQOL13). Results: The intervention group showed significant improvements in both competency level, glycaemic control and quality of life as compared to the control group. Glycated haemoglobin for diabetic elderly patients reached the normal levels at (P=0.033). A significantly higher competency scores’ level and quality of life were also observed in the intervention group (P=0.000 & P=0.003 respectively) compared to the control group after three months of implementation of the program. Conclusion: The diabetes mellitus technology program significantly improved competency level, glycaemic control and quality of life among diabetic elderly patients. Recommendations: Future research should consider larger-scale studies to integrate competency-based diabetes technology programs for diabetic elderly patients.

المقدمة : برنامج تكنولوجيا مرض السكري هو تطبيق للهاتف المحمول ظهر كأداة أساسية في إدارة مرض السكري مما قد يساعد المرضى المسنين في تحقيق تحكم أفضل في نسبة السكر في الدم وتعزيز مستوى كفاءتهم. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم تأثير برنامج تكنولوجيا مرض السكري على مستوى كفاءة كبار السن والتحكم في نسبة السكر في الدم ونوعية الحياة. الطريقة: تم استخدام التصميم شبه التجريبي، مع 60 مريضًا مسنًا مصابًا بالسكري تم تعيينهم عشوائيًا إما إلى مجموعة التدخل (30) أو مجموعة المراقبة (30). شاركت مجموعة التدخل في البرنامج التعليمي المكون من سبع جلسات باستخدام تطبيق جوال مصمم لإدارة مرض السكري. تم إجراء تقييمات ما قبل وبعد ومتابعة. النتائج: كان متوسط عمر مرضى السكري المسنين 66.13±7.16.وأظهرت مجموعة التدخل تحسنات كبيرة في كل من مستوى الكفاءة والتحكم في نسبة السكر في الدم ونوعية الحياة مقارنة بمجموعة التحكم. وصل الهيموجلوبين السكري لدى مرضى السكري المسنين إلى المستويات الطبيعية عند )0.033P=). لوحظ أيضًا ارتفاع ملحوظ في مستوى درجات الكفاءة’ ونوعية الحياة في مجموعة التدخل)0.000& P=0.003 P=على التوالي) مقارنة بالمجموعة الضابطة بعد ثلاثة أشهر من تنفيذ البرنامج. الخلاصة: دى برنامج تكنولوجيا داء السكري إلى تحسين مستوى الكفاءة والتحكم في نسبة السكر في الدم ونوعية الحياة بشكل ملحوظ بين مرضى السكري المسنين. التوصيات: ينبغي للبحوث المستقبلية أن تأخذ في الاعتبار إجراء دراسات على نطاق أوسع لدمج برامج تكنولوجيا مرض السكري القائمة على الكفاءة لمرضى السكري المسنين.
