Background: Energy drinks have become increasingly common among individuals of all ages during physical activity, attributed to a rise in their consumption rate.
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the impact of energy drinks on kidney and heart tissues of healthy wistar rats and their by evaluate the oxidative stress and antioxidant activity, evaluate the histopathological examination and determine the degree of DNA degradation in kidney tissues, determine kidney and heart function tests.
Material & Methods: Eighteen female rats were split up randomly into three groups, with six animals in each group: The first group (control group), in which distilled water was given . The second group (low dose group) in which the female rats obtained 5mL/kg body weight of energy drinks. The third group (high dose group) in which the rats obtained 10 mL/kg body weight of energy drinks. The dosage was administrated daily for 28 days
Results: There was a significant decreased SOD, GSH and CAT in the kidney and heart tissues of both treated groups compared to the control group (p-value < 0.05). The treated groups showed significant increases in MDA levels, For biochemical analysis significant increase of serum Creatinine, uric acid.CK, CK-MB and IL-6 values in kidney and heart tissues (p<0.05). There was a significant increase of comet percent, tail length, percent DNA in tail and tail moment of the both treated groups compared with the control group(p<0.05). Histopathological change in kidney and heart tissues take place as pyknosis, inflammation and injured cardiac muscle fibers.
Conclusion: This study's main goal was evaluating how energy drinks affect the kidney and heart tissues of female Wistar rats. The final results showed that regular energy drink consumption causes kidney and heart injury in addition to other negative effects. Additionally, it was determined that energy drinks have dose-dependent effects. So, it is recommended to avoid drinking them.

الخلفية: يزداد تناول جميع أنواع المشروبات مع ظهور الحياة الحديثة ، لكن تناول مشروبات الطاقة يزداد أكثر بكثير من أي مشروبات أخرى. أصبحت مشروبات الطاقة شائعة بشكل متزايد بين الأفراد من جميع الأعمار وخاصة المراهقين والشباب والأطفال لأنهم يعتقدون أنها تزيد من القوة البدنية وفقدان التعب وتقلل من الحاجة إلى النوم وتحفز الاستجابة بشكل أسرع
هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد تأثير مشروبات الطاقة على أنسجة الكلى والقلب لدى الجرذان من خلال تقييم الإجهاد التأكسدي والنشاط المضاد للأكسدة، وتقييم الفحص النسيجي المرضي، وتحديد درجة تدهور الحمض النووي في أنسجة الكلى والقلب للجرذان ، وتحديد اختبارات وظائف الكلى والقلب.
المواد والطرق: تم تقسيم ثمانية عشر من إناث الفئران البيضاء ويستار عشوائيًا إلى ثلاث مجموعات، بواقع ستة حيوانات في كل مجموعة: المجموعة الأولى (مجموعة التحكم)، حيث تم إعطاء ماء مقطر عبر أنبوب التغذية. المجموعة الثانية (مجموعة الجرعة المنخفضة) التي حصلت فيها الجرذان على 5 مل/كغ من وزن الجسم من مشروبات الطاقة. المجموعة الثالثة (مجموعة الجرعة العالية) التي حصلت فيها الجرذان على 10 مل/كغ من وزن الجسم من مشروبات الطاقة. تم إعطاء الجرعة يوميًا لمدة 28 يوما
النتائج: خلصت هذه الدراسة إلى أن استهلاك مشروبات الطاقة له آثار جانبية ويشكل مخاطر صحية كبيرة عند الإفراط في تناوله . كان استهلاك مشروبات الطاقة ضارا بإناث الفئران لأنه يسبب زيادة في تجزئة الحمض النووي ، وزيادة مستوى MDA والكرياتينين في الدم واليوريا وحمض اليوريك والإنترلوكين -6 ، كما أنه يسبب انخفاضا في مستويات GSH و CAT وSOD
الخاتمة: قد يكون لاستهلاك مشروبات تأثيرات سلبية علي الجرذان. لذا، يجب عدم تناول مشروبات الطاقة لتجنب الآثار الجانبية السلبية.
