Background: Menstrual low back pain (LBP) is the third most common
complaint of menstrual discomfort which affects 46% to 56% of the
population. Laser acupuncture (LA) is used to relieve pain and improve
function by activating pain-gate mechanisms.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of LA on
menstrual LBP, pain pressure threshold (PPT) and activities of daily living
(ADL).
Methods: Thirty-two women suffering from menstrual LBP were randomly
divided into two equal groups: The intervention group (n = 16) received LA
on the points (BL23, BL26, BL40, SP6) and the control group (n = 16)
received sham LA on the same points. Treatment was delivered 16 minutes
per session, 3 sessions every menstrual cycle for 3 consecutive menstrual
cycles. The severity of the pain was measured using a visual analogue scale
(VAS), and the PPT was measured using pressure algometry. Additionally,
person’s ability to perform her ADL during menstruation was assessed
throughout instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) questionnaire.
Results: There was statistically significant improvement (p < 0.05) in VAS,
PPT and IADL in the intervention group only post treatment compared to
pretreatment (p< 0.01). Regarding group comparisons, there was a
significant improvement in VAS, PPT, and IADL of group A compared
with that of group B post treatment (p = 0.001).
Conclusion: LA is an effective treatment for menstrual LBP by improving
pain intensity, PPT and ADL.
الخلفية العلمية: آلام أسفل الظهر أثناء الطمثاحتلتالمركز الثالث من حيث الانتشارحيث تؤثر على٤٦٪ إلى ٥٦٪. يستخدم الوخز بالليزر لتخفيفالألم وتحسين الوظيفة عن طريق تنشيط آليات بوابة الألم.الهدف:دراسة تأثير الوخز بالليزر على آلام أسفل الظهر، معدل احتمالالألموأنشطة الحياة اليومية أثناء الدورة الشهرية.الطريقة:تم تقسيم اثنين وثلاثين سيدة تعاني من آلام أسفل الظهرالمصاحبة للطمثعشوائياإلى مجموعتين متساويتين (أ و ب). المجموعة (أ) (مجموعة الدراسة): قد تلقتالوخز بالليزر على النقاط (BL23 ، BL26 ، BL40 ، SP6) و المجموعة (ب) (المجموعة الضابطة): قدتلقتالوخز بالليزر الوهمي على نفس النقاط. تم تطبيق العلاج بواقع 16 دقيقة في كل جلسة، ٣ جلسات أثناء٣ دورات شهرية متتالية.تم قياس شدة الألم باستخدام مقياس النظير البصري. أيضا، تم قياسمعدل احتمال الألم باستخدامجهاز الألجوميتريبالإضافة إلى ذلك، تم تقييم قدرة الشخص على أداء الأنشطة اليومية باستخداماستبيان مؤشرالعجزعلى الأنشطة اليومية.النتائج: أظهرت النتائج وجود تحسنذي دلالة إحصائيةفي متوسط مقياس النظير البصري في المجموعة (أ) مقارنة بالمجموعة(ب)القيمةالمحتملة>٠٫٠٠١.كما أظهرت نتائج مدى تحمل الألم واستبيان مؤشرالعجزعلى الأنشطة اليومية أن هناك زيادة ذات دلالة إحصائية في المجموعة (أ) بالمقارنة مع قيمتها المقابلة في المجموعة (ب) القيمةالمحتملة>٠٫٠١.الخلاصة:يعتبر العلاج باستخدامالوخز بالليزر علاجًا فعالًا لآلام الظهر المصاحبة للطمثمن خلال تحسين شده الالم ومعدلاحتمال الألموأنشطة الحياة اليومية.
