ملاحظة الأطروحة: Thesis (M.Sc)-Cairo University, 2026. Background: Smartphone overuse may lead to many musculoskeletal complaints mainly spinal discomfort and upper limb problems. Aim of the study: the study aimed to examine the effect of smartphone overuse on trunk muscle endurance, and investigate the correlation between smartphone overuse/addiction and trunk muscle endurance. Methodology: A total of 52 participants were recruited; their age ranged from 18 to 30 (22.42 ± 2.35 years). Smartphone addiction scale – short version (SAS-SV) was used to assess smartphone addiction and divide them into two groups; control group A (non-addicted) and study group B (addicted), while McGill trunk endurance testing was used to assess trunk muscle endurance, each group separately. Results: There was a statistical significant difference between non-addicted and addicted group in trunk flexors endurance (p = 0.042), trunk extensors endurance (p = 0.043), trunk lateral flexors of right side (p = 0.042) and trunk lateral flexors of left side (p = 0.042). There were statistical significant weak indirect correlation between smartphone addiction and trunk right side endurance (r = -0.283, p = 0.042) and smartphone addiction and trunk left side endurance (r = -0.283, p = 0.042), smartphone addiction and trunk extensors endurance (r = -0.282, p = 0.043) and smartphone addiction and trunk flexors endurance (r = -0.283, p = 0.042) Conclusion: Smartphone addiction and using it in awkward postures for prolonged duration can affect trunk muscle endurance; trunk flexors, trunk extensors and lateral flexors of both sides. Despite the significant difference between the both groups in favor of the non-addicted group, but there is no correlation between the smartphone addiction and trunk muscle enduranceملخص: الخلفية: من الممكن أن يؤدي فرط استخدام الهاتف الذكي إلى الشكاوي المتزايدة من آلام في الجهاز الحركي عموما والعمود الفقري والطرف العلوي خصوصا.
