Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
The present study has been carried out to investigate the possible physiological , pathological and biochemical changes that may develop from co - administration of sildenafil and one of the third generation calcium antagonists , amlodipine , in experimentally NZ - nitro - L - arginine methyl ester (L - NAME) induced hypertensive ratsIn order to achieve the goal of the present study , systolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured in normotensive , as well as L - NAMEinduced hypertensive rats. Treatment of hypertensive rats with sildenafil , amlodipine and their combination was also carried outThe relation of this complex model of hypertension to the biochemical changes was investigated by estimation of plasma NO metabolites (nitrate+nitrite) , as well as cGMP levels so as to highlight the possible derangement in the NO / cGMP pathway
