Screening of 359 bacilli isolates obtained from natural habitats in 7 Egyptian governorates yielded 5 isolates of Bacillus sphaericus (B.s.) with extremely high toxicity against mosquito larvae of Culex pipiens . Detailed comparative studies revealed higher potencies of some of the Egyptian isolates than the internationally recognized (B.s.) strain currently used in mosquito biological control
