The downstream Nile Basin countries are experiencing water poverty which highlighted the vast water losses in the swampy areas . Jonglei canal is one of the projects proposed in the sudd region . Recently the upper Nile countries have declared plans for development projects which might reduce the potential water savings from jonglei canal
