The potency of the live attenuated Mycobacterium bovis BCG vaccine is dependent on its content of viable cell. The viability of the organism is essential for the stimulayion of a protective immune response, hence monitoring of the viable count is an integral part of quality control o BCG vaccine. The method, which is recommended by the world health organization (WHO) and European Pharmacopoeia (EP) for control of potency of BCG vaccine, is the conventional viable count
