The first part of this work summarizes some useful data on the transport characteristics of gas mixtures which are required for detection of charged particles in gas detectors. We compare the two cooling schemes used in RE1 and RE2 and investigate the effect of applying high voltage. We also test the new cooling system to be used in the upgrade
