Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Engineering - Department of Chemical Engineering Summary: Accurate measurements and full knowledge of the soil shrinkage process are necessary for better understanding of the soil behavior and hydraulic properties . The main objectives of this research are to introduce an inexpensive , continuous and non - destructive method to determine the 3D shrinkage , in terms of vertical shrinkage and horizontal shrinkage and to explore the effect of the initial soil sample dimensions on the shrinkage curve by using two different sizes of soil cylindrical sample in the experiments : standard size (5 cm) and large size (10 cm)
